Hi all,

I'm new to the forum, so I figured it'd be a good idea to introduce myself!

I live in the Netherlands and I've been playing guitar for about 12 years. Mostly rhythm stuff, blues, jazz, soul, funk and a truckload of Hendrix. I'm not really into the flashy stuff, I think a catchy riff is infinitely more cooler than an insane shredding solo (though Hendrix stuff is flashy in its own right) smile.gif.

Looking forward to practicing and discussing music with you all!

Thanks! I will smile.gif. As for my current musical endeavors, I play in a not very active band called Sky Rats, where Hendrix meets Them Crooked Vultures. We're actually recording some stuff, so later on I might spam the hell out of it!

Thanks for all the warm and friendly welcomes smile.gif. I only own one axe, a lefty Fender Mexican Strat. Nothing special, no modifications, but I absolutely love the sounds and dynamics! I use a tube powered Vox Big Ben Overdrive pedal, Cry Baby Wah and a Roland Cube 30 amp (for home playing).

I was thinking about modifying it, like new humbuckers, but I don't really know a lot about it. Any thoughts?

Amazing combination! I like both Hendrix and the Vultures a lot... I am a potential fan of your band. smile.gif

Well, this depends on what you think your current pick ups are lacking... what are you looking for?

You have Fender Strat and you want humbuckers on it - I assume it already has a spacing for at least one humbucker, right? Otherwise, I have no clue how this would go, as I haven't yet seen and Strats re-worked from single coils to humbuckers. Is that really possible?

Thanks man smile.gif. They're my favorites! Once we nail the recordings, I'll put the music up!

To be honest, I don't have a clue either smile.gif. I use the original setup, and I think it works great. Like I said, I don't know much about it. Other guitarists walk up to me with suggestions and I nod and smile politely smile.gif. I love the Hendrix sound, but I guess it's a single coil thing.

Many newer (80s onward) Strats have a larger rout under the pickguard (swimming pool rout). You just need to cut or change the guard.
The string and bridge spacing doesn't really need to be any different than standard Fender either. Guys have been dropping Gibson PAFs into Strats and Teles forever. The whole 'F'-spaced thing is relatively new.
SD and DiMarzio both make a ton of HB pkups for Fenders. Normal sized, F-spaced and stacked (no pickguard cutting or routing necessary).

Thank Ken for the great info and take off your pickguard to see what lies beneath smile.gif You will then know what to do in respect to getting humbuckers or not wink.gif

Most of MIM strats have big individual routs or the 'swimming pool' rout under the guard.
