I have been listening a lot Michael Brecker with McCoy Tyner Trio album Infinity. This is 1st track named "Flying High".
I took Michael Brecker's solo by ear, recorded it and posted it on Youtube. Here is a link in HQ , hope you like it!

Sounds really cool. I must listen to some more Michael Brecker. Is that sax sound from your guitar or are you playing over the original solo?

Thanks a lot Matt. I agree with you, you MUST listen to more Michael Brecker

I am playing over original song with slightly distorted guitar sound. I used original track in Nuendo and opened extra audio track for my guitar to record. In the final mix I just lowered original level of song to fit original sound of my guitar. Now you get unison like effect because of that

Yeah, abslotely! Michael Brecker was one of our times most influential musicians. His playing is truly outstanding, continueeing the John Coltrane tradition. I just love Michael Brecker and have the most of his recordings in the jazz context. (it will cost a fortune to get them all, since he also was a session musician doing a lot of studio stuff)
It's a pity that he died too early....... (due to cancer in his throat)

I am very happy that you are Michael Brecker fan and appreciate his contribution. You would be surprised how many people in Serbia never heard of him! But that is not that important. Who needs to know already knows about Michael Brecker. I was very sad when I found out he passed away. I was in Boston at that time and before I left USA I went to his grave to give my thanks to everything he has done for music and influence he has left on myself and generations to come.
I hope to do more Brecker solos and upload them on Youtube. It is great ear training for me and it is music that moves me in all sorts of ways. He really knows how to trigger my emotions with his original voice in music.

Yeah, he really triggers me too, I've been a Michael Brecker fan, since the time of the first Brecker Brothers setup, remember when I first heard them on Swedish radio back in the end of the 70's. And then when Michael did his first solo release with Mike Stern... whaaoo, that was awesome. And his playing in Steps, 80/81... He contributed soo much!
Btw. I think I have some transcriptions around, I can try to find them if You are interested...

I will let you know Staffay. I really like doing things by ear but transcription could be useful after everything is done to double check for potential mistakes (if there are any)

Yeah, I will definitely agree to that! Taking things by ear is the best way to learn. I use(d) to study transcriptions to get a theoretical view of what's going on in a solo though, in matter of notes and the rhytmic approach. (mostly without learning them .... )

Very cool!
I would just emphasize that transcription could be useful since it has chord changes. That way you can analyze melody vs harmony relationship which is essential along with rhythm

By the way guys, from this solo you can learn a lot of great improvising approaches. Its all there, you just have to look for it
