GMC Forum _ Kristofer Dahl _ Amplifier Settings

Hi I would like to ask for advice and suggestions, on getting a great tone on the amp. I realise that so many guitarists have their own idea of a great tone. I have a Line 6 Flextone three amp, and I use a Line 6 Pod XT Live effects board. I generally find that when I set a tone at home at what can be called bedroon volume (as their are neighbours to consider) can sound totally different when playing with a band at louder volume.
I would be interested to hear any Idea's or suggestions.
Many Thanks

Sound at a different venue will vary for lots of reasons. One big thing to take into consideration should be the wattage of your amp. Distortion tone (particularly) depends on how close you are to your amps maximum volume, on my cube 30x it sounds more crunchy and in your face at higher volumces. In a bigger room it will sound different as well, especially if you're outside. Even the smoothness of the walls has some effect blink.gif I'm never happy unless I can tweak my setup before I play anywhere new.

Onto your main question: Tone is a very broad term. Are you looking for a metal tone, blues tone, vintage tone etc?

EDIT: I didn't notice that this was in Kris's area, apologies if I'm being intrusive.

I often find that the "big" solo tone people are looking for really isn't the result of very special/expensive amp, but rather the use delay.

In other words it is possible to achieve a big sound with cheap amp simulators if you spend some time tweaking and read how other tweak their settings. smile.gif
