OK, I've been looking for a home amp. I want something that sounds good at low volumes. I don't have a problem with disturbing neighbors, I just don't want to ruin my hearing. Have a 15W Line 6 that gets more than loud enough for me but not real happy with the digital effects. The effects are much better on the Toneport.

So I came across this Roland Cube. 15 watter as well, but has a Power Squeeze switch that drops it to 2 watts. Now I know you guys are snickering, but a .5 watt Minty Amp drives the 4x12, so I know this would. It's just down to sound now.

Anyone had a go with one of these?

I'd get a Cube60 instead.

I know it's for home practice and I know that 15W is already too much, so why do I suggest Cube60 then? Because it has a 12'' cone, and even if you play it at very low (room) volume, it will deliver much better bass sound. And being a solid state amp its sound will be just as good at level 1 as on level 10.

I wish I had known this when I bought my 15W 8'' amp. Now I play PX5D through monitors, so I don't use the amp much at home, but I plan on getting a 12'' amp in the future for sure. They sound crisp and bassy, thick.

I'm not so sure the roland cube has the power stage to power a 4x12.

How much are you willing to spend??

Cube 15 is a too small amp with a too small speaker IMO. The only good side of it is that it comes from Roland company and it is a part of a good series, but all good pracitce models are above, like Cube30 or Cube60.

Also power squeeze function is trivial, and it makes no sense on that amp, it's solid state, and there's isn't really anything to "squeeze" out of 15W combo with 8" speaker.

Something with a small power like 5W and a 1x12 speaker with suit you just fine. You can sell your line 6 in order to get (some) money for the new amp as well, if you're in no rush in buying it.

Regarding 0.5W amp driving the 4x12 - it is possible of course, but it will sound flat with no dynamics, so it is not very practical. It would be like running a 0.5 liter engine in 4x12 SUV vehicle. It will move - but very slow and lazy.

Hello mate. Check out the Harley Benton amps. Little heads and combo, all tube 5 watt. The head cost about 80 euro, I thin for 120 euro you can buy the head and a nice 1x12 cab. Little money, great sound! Good luck!
