Hi,
New guy here, just joined GMC, I've been playing guitar on and off for quite a while, going back and forth between acoustic/classical and electric. I just decided to get back into electric guitar more seriously and now I'm realizing that I have an awful lot of background ringing, mostly because of the strings ringing when I release or upper strings when I bend.
Any tips on how I could deal with that.?
Thanks

Hi Cassien! Welcome to the site!!

That's one of the difficult things regarding playing electric guitar, there is a lot of noise to mute when you are playing something. Youu have to concentrate in what you are playing but also what you are not playing. There are different ways for this but the idea is to mute all the strings excepting the one/s that you are playing.

I use my right hand's palm to mute the lower strings and usually my right hand's index finger (finger number 1) to mute the higher strings. I took some photos to make it clearer. Let me know if it helps.

Excellent advices and pics from Gabriel. I can also recommend one of my older lessons: Muting Tutorial. It's not much, but you'll get the idea on what needs to be done.
