I bought a ROCKTRON CYBORG distortion pedal after watching some demos on youtube. It seemed great. It's not. It's AWFUL!!!!!

It's easily the WORST SOUNDING DISTORTION PEDAL I"VE EVER HEARD IN MY LIFE.

It's just awful. To make it worse, they kinda pricey!!! I"m going to sell this puppy asap. AVOID THESE!!! No dynamics, no punch, and if you put too much gain it turns to pure mud. Sounds sorta like the Behringer Pod distortion but much much much worse.

Here is a picture so you can be sure to avoid getting suckered smile.gif

QUESTION: What is the WORST pedal you ever bought?

Funny thing - another Rocktron laugh.gif It was called Rocktron Rampage smile.gif

It was definitely to harsh for me so, I think that the best definition was that this pedal wasn't a good personal choice, rather than saying it was a bad pedal..

I can't think of a worse one, typically I have liked all that I have purchased, but the most frustrating and difficult one I ever purchased was the Digitech 2120 Artist. The sounds were great, but I had to get someone to set them up for me. I wanted to use the distortion of my Marshall JCM 2000 but the FX of the 2120, not the 2120 PreAmp. It was that unit that made me decide to stay with stomp boxes.

Since I discovered the AMT, I sold my Boss GT8 and stayed with stomps, then the tube amp arrived and so on biggrin.gif

I didn't buy a pedal as bad as that one but based on my pedals, my least favorite was Boss Hyper Metal. It was my first pedal and I sold it because I never liked how it sounds.

If you think the 2120 was tough, be glad you never tried the 2100! It's so obtuse that its legendary. I actually would like to try a 2120 since so many folks still love them even though they are way retro smile.gif

Speaking of digitech, my Fav pedal of all time remains the digitech gnx 3. They went to the rp series and really lost some mojo. I bought gsp1101 and it is just nowhere near my ancient. Gnx 3 in terms of tone and gain.

It's a close call between my Boss Metalcore (oh why... WHY?!) and my Boss OS-2 Overdrive/Distortion. Both were just nasally, had NO clarity at all... they were both more like really bad fuzz pedals than anything.

i try to adhere to the 'try before you buy' mantra but it doesn't always work in ones favor. i tried the Snarling Dogs fuzz/wah for bass in the store and it sounded awesome. however when i got it home and hooked up through all my other crap it just sounded weak, nasally and out of place. instead of merely wah-ing my entire sound as a whole, it seemed to separate from my sound and become its own thing. now i use a Crybaby.

While not the "WORSE" thing I"ve ever bought, I recently got a GSP1101 and Footpedal. The Footpedal is AWESOME and draws power from a cat 5/ethernet cable!!! Spiff. But the GSP itself, uggh. The effects are fine. The preamp section is LAME!!!!!!!!!
I even put the new firmware with the 5150 emulation and it's just weak. The distortion turns to MUD if you go past 5 on gain.

I really wish they would have kept the "OLD" DNA chips. MY GNX3 is TO THIS DAY the best multi effect/modeller I've ever tried in terms of getting the sound I want. Endless gain, sustain, doesn't turn to mud. I expected more from the GSP1101 but come to find out it's based on the RP500 which I personally thought was a big CRAP compared to the GNX3 as well. Again, some folks LOVE THE RP500. I'm just not one of them. sad.gif

I have put a overdrive in front of it and it's much better though. I may keep it. The pedal is just way handy and as long as you put an OD in front the sound is not bad.

I would say maybe the Digitech Bass Squeeze. I didn't dislike it that much but I got rid of it fast. If I ever add a compressor pedal to my bass setup, it will be a high quality one next time.

Years ago someone told me never sell your pedals because you won't get much for them and someday it may work for something. I have tons of pedals and every now and then stuff I didn't like works.

I would spend a little time with it and maybe with your maps settings. It may just take some time to get used to.

The Fulltone OCD is the worst pedal ive ever played. It was extremely muddy at every setting except really low gain.

I had a very bad experience with Digitech. My RP6 was the worst thing I ever bought (maybe I should have included this one at this thread) and from that moment I never bought Digitech equipment again.

This pedal's the worse.

It's so bad and overrated, it could only serve as a booster pedal.

That's generally good advice!! This pedal though was bought for cheap so I can sell it cheap. I've lived with it for 6 months trying to find a place for it in my signal chain. Not gonna happen. I can hear the chips turn to mush even using clean boost. uggh. junk!!!

The fulltone makes a good Clean Boost pedal at the head of the signal chain but I found I didn't like it turned up very much either. Turns to mud past a certain point.

I have heard really bad things about the RP6. I've been really unhappy with their top of the line GSP1101 but I LOVED the GNX3 so much, I just ordered a GNX3000 just to get the same chips/sound again. Only pedal I"ve ever owned that I"ve found had really plenty of KRUNCH, and lead gain without needing other pedals or a high gain head and the abandoned the architecture and starting making the semi crappy RP series sad.gif Not meaning to insult anyone owning an RP, Lower gain stuff is fine. But palm mute, Meshuggah stuff just doesnt' work on some gear from Digitech and Rocktron.

That pedal does make a decent boost! smile.gif But it breaks up a bit early compared to a overdive pedal so even then is suspect. Good call! Again, not wanting to offend anyone who loves this pedal, just creatd a thread to vent about disapointing pedals!!!

In regard to the Boss DS-1 and Ibanez TS-9 ...

It has to be remembered that these pedals emerged at a time when amps were loud, when rock and roll was loud and when the electric guitar in a rock and roll band was supposed to be LOUD!
In front of a JCM 800 or 70's JMP turned up, a DS-1 is a glorius thing.
