Hi guys and gals,
I'm hardly around anymore, life seems so busy. But if you'd like to follow along with my journey as I move towards being a full-time composer, please join me on Facebook. The page was only created yesterday so there's very little content yet. I won't be asking you to buy anything or spamming products. It'll just be a place where I share what I'm up to, how my journey is progressing and freely interact with anyone who's interested, whether out of simple curiosity or a desire to find their own road and link up with others who are walking the music industry path. My focus is purely on composing tracks for use in film/tv/game trailers. It's a fairly tough gig to get a foothold in, probably like any other area of making music for a living. Fortunately, some significant breakthroughs have been very encouraging as I move into my second year on this trip. So while it's my page, I'll be happy to talk about the road in general and help and encourage others where I can. Music is for sharing! Love to see you there.  Rob. Ps. Here's a little taste of how my musical future might look. I removed the original soundtracks to these trailers and replaced them with my own music, stitched together out of multiple pieces. It's the first time I've ever synched audio to video so forgive the roughness. Thankfully, synching isn't my role, at least not for the near future.  -------------------- |

Percussion is mainly Cinesamples' "Drums of War" mixed with a number of Tonehammer products, specifically Epic Toms, Epic Dhol and Bamboo ensemble. Then for synthesizers and sound design I use all kinds from Native Instruments, Sample Logic, Camel Audio, Vir2 and more. Many software producers have demo versions. It's just a matter of trying them and seeing if they fit one's composing style. I do a lot of sound design from scratch by starting with a sound sample then adding layers of effects. Normally, I'd recommend NI Kore products for that - which is what I use - but they've just been discontinued  . So at this point, I don't know who else produces really creative effects. The Guitar Rig stuff is good but it doesn't cover all the abilities that the Kore effects had.For dynamics processing I tend to use Studio One's included effects. They're very good quality. However, Tony also put me onto the Flux products, so I have their PureLimiter and Pure Compressor which are really good IMO. But if you have other specific questions, I'm more than happy to respond. Share and share alike. Everything sounds great! I studied composition with several teachers but intuitive composing is what most functions for me too! I feel like doing maths when I think more in the intervals than in the music from my head. However I think that studying music or composition always opens your mind... no matter if you use is consciously or not...Thanks a lot for your wide reply!
