Hi
I'm new here. My name is Joan, from Spain.
I've been learning with a teacher for 8 months now. As he is a professional musician he refuses to use tabs, so I've been practicing with partitures (just the basics: melodies and licks). So I was wondering whether you use them.

Thank you!

Welcome Joan smile.gif

I'm not quite sure what you mean by partitures either but tabs are commonly used here at GMC. I hope you enjoy it here and look forward to seeing you on the forum.

Welcome to GMC! smile.gif

Tabs are very useful but partitures(note sheet) are as well,
learn to use/read them both and you'll have no problems
to adapt in any musical environment. smile.gif

Welcome to GMC, here all our lessons have tabs, but I feel very confortable with partitures any way. Standart notation will heñp you to comunicate with our non guitarrist colleages.

About the Partitures, I have no idea what they are :S

Sorry, I meant musical notation. I'm starting by playing classical music with musical notation, so I wondered whether you had videos of lessons in which you practice e.g. a waltz with musical notation.

Anyway I find your classes very useful!

Welcome to GMC man! smile.gif

Regarding tabs/partitures they are means to represent music, so it is good to know both really. But don't worry, tabs are easy, you can practice with them at home, and with your teacher you can practice partitures. Sight reading from partitures is something that can only mean good for you, so listen to your teacher - it will only be a + for you as a guitar player and a musician to know them. With partitures you learn something very important (besides notes) and that is note rhythmic values. 50% of sight reading is note rhythm values imho.
