Power Supply On Top Of Pedalboard, Too much of a risk?

Topic title pretty much says it all. I got my PT-1 from pedal board, and discovered that it has a construction that allows smooth installation of voodoo power lab under. "Unfortunately", I have the t-rex fuel tank, which has a design that restrict me from using that advantage on the pt-1. It would be easy to install at the top of the board, but I fear it could be much more exposed to unexpected things. For instance on small stages on pubs and such, where I have experienced half empty beer glasses being tossed/dropped in the floor so my pedals have been covered in beer.
Luckily MXR are built like thanks and still works, but I imagne nasty things will happen when beer is spilled on the powersupply...

what do you think, too big of a risk to take?

I don't know really...These things happen. I use a simple power adapter/supply that came with my BCB-60 boss pedalboard - so yes the supply itself is a little isolated from other stuff. I did have my pedals covered in small quantities of beer...Maybe you could make some cover for it that you will "install" during gigs to protect it from liquids...Generally you won't get large quantities spilled in those "special" situations...If its feels comfortable for you to place power supply on the pedalboard itself then I think its worth the risk...

My alternatives are:

1. Place the supply on top and expose it for a probably small, but still a risk

2. Modify the board with some hardware to make it fit better under (leaving extra space on top)

3. Buy the voodoo lab supply for 100$ more...

Currently I`m working on nr.2, and will throughout the morning. I think I rather take the risk of nr. 1 instead of nr. 3...
the voodoo lab supply has a SAG-function which seems fun but useless, and two outputs LESS

Sell the Trex fuel tank and get a voodoo lab pedal power 2+

I have it mounted under my pedal train junior and I couldn't be happier!

It would be the easiset solution, at the same time the most expensive.

I have read a bit about the SAG-outputs, and I don`t really think I have any use for them. Also, my T-rex has the outputs I think I need, so I would feel a bit dumb/lazy if I just spent 100€ to solve a problem which I can probably solve with some wannabe-handyman-work and for 5 €

Or is it something with the supply that I`m missing tongue.gif ?

You can just put the SAG outputs to max, this way they work like regular 9v outputs...
The Voodoo Lab Pedal power has not become a standard on every professional pedalboard for a reason.
It's literally indestructible, splash waterproof and it creates absolutely no noise at all - it's the fire and forget power supply solution!

Selling wouldn't be practical. Mount it on top and just cover it with plastic nylon material if you are considering it a risk on a gig. Audience won't even notice it wink.gif

It takes away space if mounted onto the pedlaboard and also you can't hide the wiring very well when you have to connect everything ontop...

I have already spoken with the shop where I bought it, I can trade it for the voodoo lab..+ the extra 100€...

I have some ideas how to fit the fuel tank under my pedalboard, and since it`s mostly 9V pedals I will use, I don`t think I will buy the voodoo supply. It might be the best on the market, but I have heard exclusively good things about t-rex products, in addition that the fuel tank is half the price smile.gif

I think if you have some tools and screws you can very easily attach the Fuel Tank to the bottom of the pedalboard. If it is metal material just drill the holes for mounting, and mount the thing under the pedals. You don't need 100e for that, just some 5-10e for tool costs.

It`s something similar I`m planning wink.gif

I assume the fuel tank will be more than good enough to cover my needs, so I`ll stick to modify-the-board plan for now. I will post pics tomorrow about how it ended biggrin.gif

Pic would be nice as I'm not sure I understand your current pedalboard arrangement. Generally try to with simplest solution that works for you, even if the thing is mounted on top of the pedalboard...

Here are some pictures, I hope this is the pedalboard in question:

Here's the picture with the Voodoo Lab installed. Zakk can confirm if this is how it supposed to look like:

Here's a nice solution with plastic connectors and one version of Fuel Tank (they can be bought in any tool store, or auto store). No drilling required.

here's another one. This time it's sticky tape on both sides I think (not sure):

Sorry to "hi-jack" the thread, but I have some related questions smile.gif

I'm gonna buy a PSU and I've narrowed it down to one of the T-Rex's or one of the Voodoo Lab's.

Apart from different outputs, what is the differences between the Pedal Power 2+ and the ISO5? Only that every output is individually isolated (ISO5) or?

Also can anyone give some examples on which pedals use 12V, 18V, 24V?

The ISO5 is just a smaller version of the Pedal Power 2+. The Iso 5 has 5 power outputs while the Pedal power 2+ has 8 and some more output options. All the outputs on both are individually isolated on both!

There are a whole lot of diffrent pedals that use diffrent voltages, I can't name them all! It depends on the company though...
I had an MXR 10band Eqalizer an it ran on 18v while the Equalizer Pedal by boss works with the regular 9v.

Ok, thank you.

I want to power my DigiTech Whammy, it's a standard 9V but needs 1.3A (1300mA). Do I have to use the adapter outlet in the back of the PP2+? Haven't seen any support for a whammy pedal in other PSUs..

EDIT: Oh I found the answer to my question on the Voodoo Lab forums.. And it is yes.

How is that Pedaltrain, does it leave room for connecting an adaptor to the powersupply when mounted?
