Hello friends! Welcome to a new GMC collaboration!
This time I'll use the backing of my Ed Sheeran lesson which is an epic pop acoustic ballad that could become a killer song with the help of you. We could make this one with vocals or instrumental, it depends on the material that I receive here. Everything is welcome.
There are only two requisites: try to make simple and tasty stuff for this one.
The scale suggested is E major, or E Pentatonic Major.

IF YOU NEED HELP LET ME KNOW! I'M HERE TO GUIDE YOU.
IMPORTANT INFO About files required:
In order to make the things easier for compiling takes and mixing I need that each participant shares 3 files:
- Audio file with the mix of the backing and your guitar. - Audio file only with your guitar (If possible this audio should have the same length than the mix version) - Video of you playing the solo, and if it's not possible a picture. (Mp4 format if it's possible)
The best way to share this is compressing in a zip file to be downloaded from here or using sharing service as dropbox, wetransfer, and copying the link here.
If you decide to share your files using soundcloud please remember to "allow downloads".
Thanks!
DEADLINE: April 27 th
PS: Are you a new member? A GMC collaboration is based on a backing track over which you can add your playing (solos, arrangements, vocals, other instruments) and share it here. Then I'll mix everything to build a full song.
Who is in??
So this is the final work for this one:

Follow the chords. Start by finding the third of each chord and play them. Then slowly start connecting this thirds with other notes from the scale. That's a good trick.

I had a bit of a mess around. I haven't got my Atomic now and the Helix will be some days yet so I just pulled something out of my GT100.
The tone is not good for the piece but I've put an idea down for you to listen to. I thought about finding a better clean tone and then as the tension builds, adding some drive to it, but that's down the road.
I can't wait to see how it turns out!! I really like BENS vocals!!

Hi Phil! I really like this! In the case you don't get your Helix, could you please send me a direct guitar take, without any pedal or emulator? In this case I can assign one of my favorite plug ins to improve this tone. What do you think?

Nice Laurent! I like your ideas here. I enjoyed a lot the tapping pattern. Please find the time to send me this one or an updated version of this solo.

There you go Gab, this was a bit of ear training for me as I only knew what notes were first in each little piece. I think I went for thirds on the chord changes but I may be wrong G#, D#, F# and C#
Can you tell me what it is you like about it please?
I will try to evolve it some more, after that part the backing gets stronger so I was going to add a tiny little bit of drive and some bending phrases.
Thanks
Phil

Working a bit on the verse and pre-chorus, still very raw and I want to add some more stuff:
You have a very rich texture to your singing voice. Singing is something that genetics play a part in. Anyone can learn to sing, but unlike guitar, to some degree, your genes have a big impact on your vocal chords. of course, as a guitar player your genes could give you stubby fingers or spider fingers, so there's that But some folks are born with better pipes. You sir have a nice set of pipes!! I would encourage you to keep exploring your singing technique!!

Ok Gab,
I've recorded a video just in case time doesn't allow any more, you know how my time is at the moment. I've also put the actual recording that was done for the video, same notes as the last one played slightly different (REC button syndrome ) I also noticed afterwards that I had switched to single coil mode on the guitar. Maybe you could blend both takes
Mine would sound better but it is completely unprocessed guitar, Gab asked me to do that but I am going to try and find time to find a suitable tone through my GT100.

Thanks Mr M,
I think I may have been picking too hard because it was so clean, the G, being unwound was the one I probably picked harder than the others. The action isn't super low on that guitar.
Cheers for listening buddy

I love it Cael!! I think that your voice sounds very fresh over this backing. The chorus vocal job is awesome. It's really interesting how you arranged it with those harmonisation. I only note some pitch issues in the verses that could be easily fixed by me. Feel free to share this only audio, or take some more days to practice and share a new take. We have some more days to go...
For the guitarists, feel free to share solos but also to jam over Cael's version to submit guitar arrangements that work with the vocal lines.

Wow! Thanks, Gabriel I wasn't sure if I had gone over the line by extending the backing in the way I did, but I felt it was easier to add more vocals and make it more of a song that way. Of course you should arrange it all in a way that you see fit, this was just one way I came up with

I am not really satisfied I mixed 2 tracks solo because it doesn't sound great Also, I think that I can do better about dynamic on final section. My bend to 00"33' is not on timing, I have to work again
When does collab end ?

Moved recently. To little time to play. Getting the BandRoom running. Recording with some gear I haven't used in a while and mixing with pa full range speakers instead of headphones/monitors. Just some ideas and practice. I was so busy setting up the gear, I recorded on the fly without a pick. I find using a thumb and fingers makes me play in a certain way with respect to note groupings and such. And makes the note attack softer. I'll have to try another using a pick and see how it goes.

Hi Gene, thanks for taking the time to record a solo for this one.
I think that the tone you are getting by using your left hand fingers is really warm and tasty. At the same time it sounds fresh and fits good with the backing track.
Feel free to share a new solo with pick, but this one sounds good! Remember to share the only guitar files.

I broke out Protools to check it out. I have an old version that the GUI doesn't exactly work right with the newer OS, but I figured I'd fool around with it rather than use Ableton. Played with a pick but really tried to make my attack sound the same. Anyway, the vibe isn't much different.
https://soundcloud.com/shallowlines/testinter
I downloaded the free Protools First and gave it another go for practice. I felt the guitar was a bit dark on the last take so I added a little post EQ and pushed the upper end a little. It's all in the same melodic idea as the last two but maybe a little more together perhaps. Dunno. Maybe not.

Mister M, your take is cool and smooth. Something I'll have to sit down and follow along to see how you connected the phrases to the underlying chords. I haven't completely listened to the vocals yet but your lines leave space to weave in and out of Cael's voice and add counterpoint.
Phil66. I meant to comment a while back somewhere else but didn't get around to it. I can hear a difference in your playing over the time I've been around. Keep it up. The practice is paying off.

Hey friends! How are you?? I have a premix, could you please check it and tell me what you think?
I like it. That mix is pretty cool. I think it all works well. The opening and continuance into the vocals is cool. The layering of parts melts together. And the almost acapella ending is spot on.
Only two suggestions.
1. Cut my first part after 1.34 2. Maybe play with backing a little at the end and decrease it's volume.
Otherwise I thinks its really cool.
