Ok,so here we are with another
collab specially for instructors.
I'm giving you backing track for my Guitar Idol competition entry
called Junk Medley,it contains few different genres
so I guess all of us would be able to find something we like
to play over.
Now,small problem about this track is tempo
and time signature changes but I'm sure we can get over it.
Now,have a listen to the backing,
you may use some of the themes from http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DNfG5QBmm0 if you want
and then you can modify it,as you wish.
Now,just post here which part each of you would
like to play over, per example, from 2:03 to 2:43 etc.
Another important thing, when exporting your takes (mp3,wave)
you'll have to give me starting point also in seconds,
per example,take from 2:03 to 2:43,starting point 1:58,
just to help me with editing.
Ok,lets starts,share your thoughts here,
I'll open another thread.specially for uploads!
Cheers
Deadline is 6th July 2008.

I am interested in the 03:12-03:27 part, I'll give the exact times with my entry.
Muris could you briefly let me know the harmonies for this part?
edit - it seemed a little short, so depending on how many other people we get in this collab I'll be able to do the ending as well. (in other words 03:12- to ending)
Posted by: Jerry Arcidiacono Jun 6 2008, 12:26 PM
Downloaded. I can't listen right now but I will back with some info about my take.
Great idea Muris and good luck for the next week
Posted by: Muris Varajic Jun 6 2008, 12:30 PM
Yeah,it might be a little short Kris but we can
expand duration of each take once
we have all participants.
And hrmony for that part is something like this:
F#5,then F9 add #4(actually F5 with open G,B and high E),
F#5 once again and last one in D#/G#,with A# and A as passing notes right before it.
Please ask if there's anything else.

I would like to do something in the beginning, I will let you know the exact times, I just downloaded the backing and will mess around a bit Any deadline for our contributions?
Posted by: Muris Varajic Jun 6 2008, 12:31 PM
No deadline at all Marcus, take your time,
we are honored to have you involved here.
Thanks tho Jerry!
Posted by: Marcus Siepen Jun 6 2008, 12:53 PM
No deadline sounds cool, since BG will play a festival in spain soon, which will keep me a bit busy
Posted by: Ivan Milenkovic Jun 6 2008, 03:38 PM
Very cool Muris, I'll let you know on the time!
Posted by: Kristofer Dahl Jun 6 2008, 04:52 PM
Once we get an impression of how many people want to be a part of this (etc) - what do you think about setting some kind of deadline? It could be however long we want it to - but if we don't set one at all this could turn into an eternal project. I know that some people (including me) need a deadline to "get going"...
If I know that we will have a final mix ready in, say one month, that will motivate me to start working on it pretty soon - but if I don't know if it will be ready in a couple of months it probably won't get my priority at all.
Let me know what you think!
Posted by: Muris Varajic Jun 6 2008, 05:08 PM
I see the point Kris, some "pushing" wouldn't harm
I'll set 6th July 2008. as a deadline for uploads,
I guess one months should be enough.

I really want to do something at 01.19 to around 01.38-39
Posted by: Nemanja Filipovic Jun 7 2008, 05:02 AM
Hi,I will take part from 0.23-0.52 I think,if it is ok off course. And one more thing,Muris can I sing in serbian,it is kind of that vibe here,Balkan I mean.
Posted by: Muris Varajic Jun 7 2008, 02:21 PM
Kris,Thrond and Nemanja are IN.
Nemanja,sure you can,
it'd be odd to sing that part in english per example
Posted by: Ivan Milenkovic Jun 7 2008, 04:52 PM
I'll take the first part, 0.00-0.53

i dont know if this is mp3 file Muris .i download it but its PHP file
Posted by: Marcus Siepen Jun 8 2008, 10:22 AM
Yup, that deadline would be fine for me, but now the part that I wanted to have is already taken, damn Well, I will have to look fo another section in the playback then, next time I'll be faster

Maybe Muris has a solution for this, we could prolongue a section or maybe you could "duel" (for lack of a better word) with someone else..

QUOTE (Ivan Milenkovic @ Jun 7 2008, 05:52 PM)
I'll take the first part, 0.00-0.53
I'm afraid that would be too long Ivan, almost 25% of whole tune

It is MP3 Hisham, just change extension to .mp3 and it'll work.

Well I could duplicate specific section if needed.
Problem is,each section leads to next one so it might sound
a bit odd but nonetheless,we can try it.

Sorry Muris, then the last (F-F#) part maybe? It is roughly the same only lasts less. OK?

I think Kris booked that one already, but not entirely,
03:12-03:27 , you could close the piece eventually.
I would wait until we see who else is interested,
then it'll be much easier to make final arrangement of takes.

Muris I cant find the Uploads for collab. Please help.
Posted by: Ivan Milenkovic Jun 9 2008, 04:05 PM
Oh, I just now realized that you are actually reserving spots over the backing, and not repeating the backing parts. Didn't want to take others spots then, sorry man. I'll skip this one then.
Posted by: Marcus Siepen Jun 9 2008, 04:31 PM
Maybe it is a good idea to first see which instructors would like to be in this, which parts they would like to play, and then Muris could kind of organize who is playing on what part, otherwise it turns into a "who comes first plays first" thing Well, I would like to play something in the intro, maybe from 0-21 seconds.

then we'll make arrangement.

No need for skipping Ivan,we can do even few bars each,
more color to the overall sound,it doesn't have to be "full part" for each participants.

not to record takes by then.
We will need more conversation here
to create fine and equal section for each participant,
lets wait day or two more to see if someone else will jump in!!

That would be hard at this point Henry
cause some of the instructors wanted too long parts
and I need full list of players to set fine sections for each of them.

I won't have access to my recording equipment for a couple of days so if you want my files before the deadline I will need to upload by latest tomorrow! If so let me know where you want the files!
PS This was an awesomly cool backing and really tricky at the same time - I can understand why the guitar Idol drummer got a bit confused!

What an amazing and fresh solo Kris!! You should make a lesson based on it for GMC!
I saw Muris participation in guitar idol and I can't believe the drummer's performance.
They should have given Muris a second chance. His song was the most awesome and original of the competition.

Yes I agree that Muris' tune was something completely different than Guerra's - and if I had been in the jury there is no doubt that I would had chosen Muris!
Fortunately for everyone involved - I have got the impression that Muris is quite happy with the experience anyway. As has been pointed out Muris "won" when he was chosen to come to London - to be seen and heard in such a cool guitar contest with so many great people from the business.
+ Muris got to meet Smells and Bondy!

Joe Kataldo 01-38 - 01.58
(Sorry Joe,we need few more spots so I had to split your part)
Henry Dietzel ? 01.58- 02.22

I, and I suspect the same goes for Marcus S, thought that as with previous collabs our place was secured if we replied we were in. I understand now why we did it differently for this one as it has more of a song structure.
Also, for future collabs (with this kind of song strucutre) I think this way of doing it (first having a thread to see what interest there is, then setting people's exact solo spots) - is a good one!

Confirmed here Muris, can't wait for the backing
Your part will be the same on new backing
so you can record it right away if you want,
just wait for upload topic.

No problem at all Hisham.
Check out http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?showtopic=17314 I opened for uploads only.
Your part (9/8) is now without that synth lead so you can do your own melody.

Do not worry about the drums Henry,
just use newer backing and give me your take
with and without backing.
Would you mind to do it in uploads topic tho?
Thanks
