In todays briefing from the President and the Coronavirus Task Force they discussed medications already in use for different things that could possibly be used to treat Covid-19 and how the process is being streamlined to test these drugs for effectiveness. There were a few different drugs mentioned but I am not sure if they are the same drugs mentioned in the video you posted although they do sound familiar. This option had been looked at for a little while and I think they may have tested certain HIV meds but it doesn't sound like they worked in that testing.
There is at least one vaccine that has begun testing on volunteers and I think there is possibly a couple other's that aren't far behind and ready to start testing soon.

Generally a virus, once you have it, can't be cured. You can of course develop a vaccine but if one gets a virus you can really only treat the symptoms.

He was more pointing out the misuse of the word "Cure". The drug in question is being tested by the FDA in mild covid cases to reduce the time to recovery and lesson shedding (infecting other folks) time. Doctors are allowed to use it right now, today under "compassionate use", which means it's up to the doctor to make the call. So it doesn't need to be FDA approved to get used thankfully smile.gif Just takes a doctor wiling to prescribe a 50 year old malaria drug of label which many won't do for fear of simply being sued. Still, it's one of the few options right now other than just waiting for covid to run it's course.

the drug in question is a malaria vaccine used since WW2 and has been approved since then and FDA approvals have had less trials than this leading Doctor in the field that has produced 19 out of 19 people improved immensely

If you are being lead to believe that the malaria drug is FDA approved for Covid, then you are being misled. Here is a direct quote from the FDA web site.

While there are no FDA-approved therapeutics or drugs to treat, cure or prevent COVID-19, there are several FDA-approved treatments that may help ease the symptoms from a supportive care perspective.

for reference here is the link where FDA talks about this Malaria drug and says flat out that it's not FDA approved for treatment of covid19. It can be used under "Compassionate use" guidelines.

https://www.fda.gov/news-events/press-annou...ment-treatments

There are many MISLEADING VIDEOS like this one where the president says "IT'S APPROVED". He's just sadly incorrect. Per the FDA web site, this drug is NOT approved for treating covid. There are NO FDA approved treatments as yet.

AGAIN THIS VID IS JUST FLAT OUT WRONG.

Here is the Presidents own expert correcting the President. It's approved for Malaria. Not Covid.

The President is a bit misinformed and is saying things which are a bit misleading. He indicates that this treatment has recently been approved, "very quickly" for Covid19. His expert has to come right behind him and say it's approved for Malaria. Not Covid. It's been approved for Malaria for 50 years. He's trying his best to salvage the misinformation.

No ..I wasn't mislead ,it's approved for malaria and as a safe drug a doctor can prescribe it for any thing he sees fit as doctors commonly do( even if the FDA hasn't "approved " it for covid-19. you don't need to start you orange man bad in a thread I started so people would know there is hope

Yes, it's approved for Malaria, but it's been approved for that for nearly half a century so that's not really news. I wanted to clarify that there is no FDA approved treatment/cure, etc. That's all. smile.gif It's important that we not convey information that is misleading imho given how critical this massive outbreak is to the health of our country/planet wide population.

I'm all for hope, still, the original vid used the word "CURE" as did your original title post which is why I felt I had to clarify things a bit. There is a lot of misleading info going around and I don't want to be responsible for letting it slide. That first vid is using the word cure as click bait, as are many others. Hope is different from information that's just not correct.

As far as actual treatments for covid19, there are many clinical trials taking place. Here is a bit of info on one of them. Sadly, even the best estimates look like it's a year out for approval.
