> Rules

Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Original lesson: Alternate Picking Workout #7 by Darius Wave

After a week or so of consistent practice this is the result. I did hit harder and improved my tone. Also I tried to focus on timing and not missing notes.

Hi George!

This new take shows improvements regarding hands sync and dynamics. This means that you are on the right track and that your practice is correct.

There is still work to do regarding timing, and hands, mostly in the faster section so I recommend you to keep this lesson in your diary practice and share a new take in 7 days.

I would also dedicate some time to adjust your tone. Listen to your take, and compare it with the original take. You'll notice that Darius tone is warmer and nicer to hear. This can be subjetive and I wanted to give my opinion.

Keep on working!

You start off strong here! About 50 seconds in when you have to switch between two positions, it get's a pinch sketchy. But it's nothing you can't handle. I'd just say isolate that spot on a loop. As for your tone, it sounds like a noise gate or compressor is chopping off part of your sound. This can be handy when it prevents string noise but it also kills sustain when you want there to be sustain such as when you want to ring a note out with some vibrato. It can result in a bit of a cold/sterile tone. You may be turning the volume down on your guitar to get the tone you are getting. I'd say turn that volume knob all the way up and if it's not already and use whatever processing you have to do the rest. Also, rely on your muting for staccato and for reducing extra noise. Your hands are your best weapons!
This is NOT an easy bit to play and you've got a pretty good handle on it. Sort out a tweak on tone and that one bit with the quick position change and you have this licked! Solid 6 from me.

There are improvement here fore sure!

You are in sync in the beginning - however the notes chopped, meaning you do not let them ring. This is probably a sacrifice you have made subconsciously to focus on the sync part.

The second , faster section, contains several parts were you loose sync.

All of the above would be solved if you practiced at a tempo so slow you have the time to think about the details.

Keep it up, you get a 6 from me!

This take is definitely better. don't worry cause we can still point out same issues but this time the amoujnt of them is much smaller. Actually your are really going well with this one and besides the moments you slip, you have a very nice control of sound. You still rush a little mostly. Some notes are in front of the beat but now it's less visible than in your previous take.

As for the tone try to switch to neck pickup - tone will be definitely more friendly even if darker than original one.

Well done - now it's definitely your wrist that makes all the work.

Around 0:49 you loose the sync a little when you shift a single finger between two notes.

Summary - all aspects have been improved. Still some work to be done but now your pretty close with this one.
