GMC Forum _ CHILL OUT _ Gmc Gift Certificates?

Posted by: leedbreak Nov 28 2007, 03:16 AM

I am planning on getting a friend of mine about a six month membership as a Christmas Present. Maybe you can offer a package at a certain price as kind of a gift certificate. These could be bought only by existing members. You could make a pretty thing to print out for under the tree with a place to add the receiver's new log in name and password.

Just an idea that could really boost memberships. biggrin.gif

I tried to post this twice on Kris's board but it disappeared when I clicked "post new topic" huh.gif

Hey, good idea. I would probably get at least one gift cert for someone I know.

Posted by: JVM Nov 28 2007, 03:38 AM

I think it's a great idea.

Posted by: Ayen Nov 28 2007, 04:31 AM

Good idea, but how would the subscription process work? I think if it were just a use-for-a-while system, Piracy might come into play. Not by GMCers of course, but by the person receiving the certificate.

Awesome idea leedbreak! It would be a great christmas present smile.gif

Posted by: mattacuk Nov 28 2007, 11:51 AM

Same here- my best mate doesnt like subscribing to stuff- hopefull this'll be a nice kick up the ass for him if we can get it going..

Looks like a great idea to me Leadbreak smile.gif .

Maybe we could also do the reverse - give gift subscriptions to the 'not so good' guitar tuition sites to people we don't like biggrin.gif .

Cheers,
Tony

Agreed, sorts the commited from the not so commited I think m8 wink.gif

Maybe there could be a fairly easy way to get this started....

Somebody talented at arts-fartsy stuff photoshop etc (matt mellow.gif ?) could design a certificate/gifty thing...then all we would need to do create an account for that person ourselves...

one small problem though...we would need to set up a new paypal account.

I guess the process would go as follows-
--create blank certificate
--make new paypal account (you! will make one for your friend...no admins etc wink.gif )
--make new subscription with a forum account
--cancel subscription (this would still give the user their remaining 6 month etc left am i right?)
--make sure credit/debit card is removed from paypal account!! (just incase that friend gets a bit carried away when he/she sees a paypal address--after all they're going to see it often.)
--then just make sure your friend is given the paypal address and password along with the rude forum name biggrin.gif and password...maybe write it on the back of the gift certificate.

This way i think would work without too many threats to our moneys etc.
GMCers could just download the template certificate and print it out smile.gif

Thanks Leedbreak, this is a great idea - I hope we can get this done very soon - it would be awesome if people used gmc as a Christmas gift! biggrin.gif

Could there not just be a way to purchase a username and password that would just automatically expire in 6-12 months and then if the gift receiver wants to keep going he will just have to sign up on his own after that. We as members would guard the new account since GMC would have a record of who is responsible for buying that account.

I have a friend who is learning guitar that I would love to have on this site, but he has dial-up internet that is so slow, it literally (no exaggeration!) takes about 10 minutes for one page to load... so, as you might guess, he doesn't use the internet much... laugh.gif

Maybe someday after he gets a better internet setup he'll join... sad.gif

I belive anything is possible for GMC. The site is already unrecognisable from when I joined last December! Just think what a year or two can bring.

However, Paypal is every web developers nightmare - had we chosen to go for a Paypal certificate we would have been ready for next years Christmas! blink.gif

If the certificate thing turns out to be appreciated we will change to Paypal for sure! smile.gif
