Robert Johnson aka "the grandfather of rock&roll". I think that says a lot of where it started. He was a true musical genious, no education or anything, often playing in very odd tunings, with a slide, and a soulful voice that will give a chill to anyone who listens to it. God thanks we have his recordings, and a great misfortune that they are so poor in quality
