GMC Forum _ GEAR & PRODUCTION _ Chaging Strings - Watch The Gauge!

Posted by: kevin-riff-after-riff Jun 22 2008, 07:04 PM

ok, i decided to give my fretboard on the rg2570e a clean with lemon oil yesterday because it was horrrible.
so everything went well, lemon oiled got rid of the horrible stuff, "conditioned" it with fastfret because i didnt have anythinng else

now comes the bad part

i had 3 packs of strings, one pack was 9s etc and the other two had 10s written on the front one (comes in a sec)

so i didint read the packet and put the nines on and then realised after i tuned it up the bridge is all wrong, so i realised i put the 9s on and being lazy i jsut took them off and threw it away (well done wasting £5)

th worst part is i put the supposedly 10s on next and ignored the bridge again, and then noticed its all screewed up.... after a 5 minute confusiion i realised i those were not regular 10s, they were HYBRID 10s i got for free with my epiphone!!!! this meant i just had to readjust the tension so i was tired and went to bed

i fininshed it just now and in total it took me about 3 hours to "clean my fretboard" (which included restringing TWICE and all the cleaning time AND THE TENSION SPRING ADJUSTMENT!!)

so that was a very well crafted screwup

one piece of advice for everyone with normal floating bridge with no special stabalisers -
MAKE SURE ITS THE RIGHT GAUGE!!

just thought id share that.....
