Hello Gab, Ok, I'm not happy with this at all but I've posted because the will be another one coming soon. I've still called it in progress. I found it much harder to get inspiration that I did with the other two. I should have faded it out about a quarter of the way through but I left it just in case you can hear something half decent somewhere in there. I couldn't manage to get anything flute like at all The flute is such a smooth flowing sound and I just don't have the skills. Hopefully you will understand what I was aiming for and advise me, I wanted a lilting happy sound that would be nice to have in hidden speakers when walking through a forest or something similar. https://soundcloud.com/gmcphil-1/paradise-in-progress2 I like it Phil! It really fits with the scene, so I think that you did a great work. I like the fact that you added the "in progress" label. There is always time to get back to unfinished compositions and finish them. Who knows? Maybe in the future you release a solo instrumental album and want to use it. I close my eyes and I can imagine in the forest with this one, you did it mate. Thanks for joining! -------------------- My lessons

Hi Alex! Thanks for your submit! One question: were you playing over a backing track?

Hey Gabriel, No I did not play over a backing track. Interesting! I like the feeling here, and I can imagine some synths on this one... could you send me the audio files of this idea? I'd like to try something... -------------------- My lessons

Hi Alex! This is what I've got! I'm not totally happy with the final results but it's a good draft to keep on working. There are some things that make it tricky for me and that's why the final work is short:
- I could not found a tempo for the whole idea so adding rhythm patterns or changing chords regularly wasn't possible. - You didn't use an specific scale so deciding chord progressions is not easy here. By the way, I like the enigmatic feel that we got, just have in mind those ideas for future compositions. upbends_2_alex_with_strings.mp3 ( 886.43K ) Number of downloads: 123 This final track is not totally related with the photo, but It has been a great excuse to create a piece of music together. Well done Alex! -------------------- My lessons

Well done Alex! Hey Gabriel! Thank you for your help on this, I think it sounds much better, not perfect but better for sure. I like the mysterious somewhat sad feeling that you helped to create. Do you want me to play over a backing track next compositions? Or just pick a scale and a metronome? |

It would be good if you can start to create your own arrangements for your ideas. Do you have experience writing drums and other instruments on Reaper? -------------------- My lessons

No, I don't have experience of that. Ok, so this thread is also a good workout to start experimenting this. Do you have Reaper? If not, there is a free version: http://www.reaper.fm/ Go for it, and then I'll guide you how to continue..... -------------------- My lessons

This is great. Thanks Gab. I'm interested in this too. Maybe a workshop would be good on its own???
It's something for the weekend when there is a little more time though. Cheers -------------------- SEE MY GMC CERTIFICATE “Success is not obtained overnight. Being able to manage tools to record the things that are sounding in your mind is part of the Creativity Workout so we can also use this thread to explore VST intruments. Please download that stuff and check if Reaper opens them.
Both links are free software, there are many paid options too that you could try. I recommend Ezdrummmer, Superior drummer and Steven Slate drums, (for drums off course), Trillian for bass, and Native Instruments stuff for synth, electronic, orchestra and other miscellaneous stuff. However, the free stuff is enough by now. -------------------- My lessons
