Playing On Higher Frets (14+)

The action is slightly higher up there and i have trouble finding a comfortable spot to place my left hand thumb to help my navigate the narrower frets. any advice for gaining comfort in the upper registers of the guitar? thanks all! Thee action isn't horribly high or anything just higher than say the 1-5 frets but i think that is typical to most guitars. Muris, I will try throwing my thumb up over the top a little higher, i typically play with it a little over the middle point of the neck behind my middle finger so its just something new to learn! either way, sounds like it is time to slow down and acclimate to the slightly different playing style the higer frets demand! I think with proper practice (metronome and/or backing tracks) you can reach your tempo no problem. It just takes a little bit extra effort thats all. While on the lower frets the general rule is 1 finger = 1 fret, on the higher frets You can easily use first three fingers for 4 or even 5 frets, and leave the pinky for bigger stretches. Playing on higher frets surely mean a different fingering to access all frets and it does need additional practice. Above fret 17 i only use 3 fingers except rarely when i need my pinky for legato.
