Ok..it appears that I have really been really missing out in the pick department. I have been playing with Dunlop Tortex 1.14mm picks (purple ones) for a couple years. Recently I came to the conclusion that I needed to make a change. For one I did not like the fact that the roughness of the tortex pick wore off quick.. thus leaving the entire pick shiny and slippery. Due to this I found these picks would constantly rotate counter-clock wise in my hand while I was picking.. this was very frustrating and always made me wonder if I was holding the pick wrong?

Today I grabbed a pack of 2.0mm Big Stubby Dunlops. As soon as I opened the pack and held one of these in my hand I felt like I had found a long lost friend.. it just felt right. The pick has an circular indentation on both sides that to me is very comfortable. The extra thickness makes a huge difference. Whereas the thinner pick would get hung up on strings the Big Stubby just seems to power on through. The Big Stubby is made from lexan material, it's smooth with beveled edges and has a sharper picking point than the Tortex. In the end this may not be the best for chord strumming but for picking I love them.

Silly me for never trying a 2.0mm pick.. but man what a difference. Probably stating what is very obvious to many here.. I just wish I had tried these picks earlier.

Gary

Agreed! Stubby ones are the best! I play with 3 mm, big ones. What a difference in tone!?!?!!!!

Why anyone would spend thousands of dollars on amps and guitars but stick with paper thin picks and miss out on the tremedous tone these stubby picks will give is beyond me biggrin.gif

More ppl should definaeletetley try them smile.gif

3mm is thin!

... well, when compared to THESE:

EDIT: did not expect that picture to need resizing, also those are 11.85mm 'INSANITY' v-picks, also also: I loved big stubby until I tried the small pointed vpick.

I prefer something between 1,5 and 2 mm, 3 is definitely too much for my taste.

It's great that you've found your perfect pick! smile.gif I use 1.14 plastic pick, it feels right, I think 3mm woudl be a killer with strumming, but if you have great sound with it, that's awesome man! smile.gif

I used jazz III picks for years, and I though I would never change again to another pick, just until I tried the big stubby 2.0 mm.
Man, they feel so right in the hand wub.gif

I don't like the overall feeling of the 3.0 big stubby, but I think I do play faster alternate picking with it. So I keep one with me as well...

The world of picks...

Vpicks
Wegan
Blue Chip
Dugain
Red Bear

Tried most of the V picks, 5 different types of Dugain, Wegans. Waiting on the Blue chip.

Even though they are fairly cheap compared to the others the small rounded and small pointed V picks are my favorite.

Problem is they wear out (not as quick as tortex but still) atleast you can use all 3 sides... and they're clear whose bright idea was that?? I'll have to order the red ones next time (which cost more!!!)

Hopefully the Blue Chip will be sort that...

anyway glad you found your pick, stick to it and don't get drawn into the dark world of boutique picks!!!

I really like the V pick... and if clear is easy to lose...go with the glow in the dark ones! They shine for a long time, and are easier to see than the clear ones when you drop them (especially at night!)

I got turned on to big stubby's by a professional guitarist, 3mm is a lot of pick but the indentations make it fell like a 2 mm in your grip, strumming is more difficult as you need a really soft grip though.
