GMC Forum _ Introduce Yourself ! _ Hi.

Posted by: Stinks May 11 2011, 04:24 PM

Hey guys,

I'm a twenty year old (greek) guitarist from Germany.

1,5 years ago my bandmate (known as "zakkwylde", I think), showed me GMC and I was really fascinated.
I tried some free lessons and I felt like it was the first time that I actually improved my guitar skills through video lessons, without having any real personal trainer. I also heard about the great GMC community and the huge amount of knowledge ,shared on the GMC board.
It was really a great experience.

Unfortunatly I could not afford a full Membership.
But at least I became a facebook follower wink.gif
A few days ago I was informed that I had won a free 1 month GMC membership (through facebook).

So... here I am... and I'm really happy about it! biggrin.gif

Some information about my guitar life:

Basically, I am a (pretty "modern" and average) metal guitarist. My guitar style is somewhere between Trivium and As I Lay Dying.
I also love bluesy stuff (SRV) and classic rock soloing (zakk wylde, gus g, slash etc.), even thogh I'm a horrible lead guitarist tongue.gif
In fact I always try to master as many different guitar styles as possible, in order to become a balanced and flexible guitarist.

My gear consists of a gibson LP custom with EMGs, an ESP eclipse (and a few more superstrats and a acoustic guitar), a marshall JVM and a bogner 4x12 cabinet. I use some OD pedals too.
Besides that I play through an orange tiny terror at home.

I am happy to be a part of GMC and im sure that I wil have a great time smile.gif

cheers
Alex

Welcome Stinks - I am actually a half Greek guitarist from Sweden! =)

Oh and here is a fun fact: Chris Evans used to call himself 'Smells' - maybe he is your soulmate ph34r.gif

Edit: On a more serious note it sounds as if you would want to focus a little on your lead chops. I would focus on vibrato and left hand exercises to start with (since you say you are stronger rhythm guitarist) - as soon as possible I would try to learn a full GMC solo lesson!

Thank you all!

@Kris:

haha, these are some funny facts. Maybe I should read the omens biggrin.gif
(offtopic: do you speak greek? ^^)

Yeah, your totally right and im already on it.
I try to lern this solo right now http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guitar/neoclassical-etude-1/ (should be through in a few days).

However, my "lead guitar problem" is not based on big technical deficits.
I have bigger problems in phrasing and having a sense for melodies while soloing. Like there is no inspiration in my solos, to put it that way.

But that's why I'm here wink.gif
Im sure that there are many lessons that can help me and I will ask you guys if there is something i don't understand wink.gif

Aha! Ok then I would focus on lessons with a lot of bending/vibrato/phrasing. But it sounds like you have a clear vision where you need to go - that's very good.

And no I don't speak Greek - still everybody keeps telling me that what I am say is Greek to them ph34r.gif Don't know what I am doing wrong laugh.gif
