One of my Bootcamp Students (BEAT), pointed me toward these new picks created by JTC and IBANEZ. These meet all of the requirements and more that I ask my Bootcamp students to use when selecting a pick.

1.)Thick (2.5 mm)
2.)Stiff (Zero bend/flex)
3.)Pointy (also beveled)

For learning to Alternate pick in a precise and brisk way, having a thick, stiff, pointy pick is really important imho. It helps train the hand not to over commit to any one pick strike and the point helps the hand find a comfy resting angle. If the pick is not pointy, the hand starts to address the string with the pick horizontal to the string. This puts stress on the hand and it's not a good thing. Also, any bend/flex in the pick reduces precision. The bevel helps the pick slide between strings and not get hung up. In short these look great and I think I"m going to have to buy some and give them a try!!! They are working great for BEAT in bootcamp. Great tone, precise strikes, etc. Thanks much to BEAT for sharing these with me as I'd not heard of them before now. Have you guys seen these?

Thanks for sharing Todd,

Just ordered a pack of six from Amazon, worth a try but I do like my Dunlop Ultex Jazz III 2.5mm, I've never kept to one type of pick for so long, been using them for years cool.gif

Okay, they're here,

First impressions, they're great, not sure if I prefer them to my Jazz IIIs but I'm going to use one solid for a week and then go back to the Jazz III. Here's a pic with a Jazz III there for reference.

Good to know. I haven't gone to my regular store since summer and when buying strings always got a new pick to try with the change, will keep this in mind. The latest one I got was the kirk hammet jazz III.

I also like jazzIII 2.0, even suggested to a few friends. Great for shred but I didn't dig the clean tones so never became a regular for me.

I also came across these picks by chance.
For me there is only one small minus point. The picks are a bit small and so I had to get used to them first.

When you get fully used to them, try an Ultex Jazz III, they're slightly smaller than the JTC but a great pick.

They don't have a "grip", do they? Like the Jazz III Max Grip?

I'm intrigued by the Player's Pick, but I have a tendency to drop picks that are smooth.

I'm the same buddy but these things don't even turn in your hand, they aren't sticky but they seem high friction, summer time will be a good test.

Let us know what you think buddy. At the moment I have no preference over the JTC and the Jazz III, actually I do, tonight I tried the Jazz III and found the lettering to be a distraction rolleyes.gif rolleyes.gif

I've been using them since they showed up and I like em! Going to be suggesting them in Bootcamp. Thanks for the tip!! They are nice and thick, zero bend/flex, and beveled for easy string traverse and nice and pointy!!! They are a pinch smaller than I usually like, a bit larger than a jazz III in terms of size, but not a "small" pick by any means. The best part is that these are much cheaper than vpicks and other options that I've been using and they are readily available!!! All together, they make a great pick for BOOTCAMP and a great pick just in general!
