How Do You "invent" Lessons?

Hey Muris,

I've checked so many videos out of you, and what astounds me that every single video has so much musicality in it that I just can't believe it. There are parts in your lessons other people would use to cover a whole song, it's just amazing. Now what I want to know is, what do you think before you start a lesson? I guess you first choose the style of the lesson, for example rock solo, and then you start building it up. Do you always have a melody in your mind and then you harmonize it with chords etc. or do you start with "random" chords and try to construct a good solo on these chords?

What also interests me is your use of theory. How much theory do you actually know to make such melodic solos? Is it really necessary to learn locrian b6 scales etc. to be able to do the most out of a melody line? Also, do you look at the scales vertically or horizontally or even both smile.gif?

And the last question is: If someone would play a Asus4b7 chord to you, could you recognize the whole chord or "just" that it is sus4b7?

Lot of questions smile.gif But I hope you can answer them, it's just really interesting for me to see how much someone has to know before he can really play good, like you do.

Hi smile.gif

That's tricky question to answer indeed, making of lesson, the idea for it.
Well,usually I pick a topic for it,level,basic style etc.
Then I create a lead/rhythm line by simply jamming along, adding things and throwing something out.
When I have general sheet done then I start making backing track.
Important thing to say is that I "hear" progression while I'm playing lead,
that feels natural to me,no miracle tho, comes with lot of practicing and playing, that's all. smile.gif

As for theory,I'm trying to learn more every day.
The more you know, the wider perspective you have.
But indeed you can create melodic solo by not knowing too much of theory.
Good idea is to sing a melody and then to locate it on fretboard, comes in handy.

Maybe I missed something,please say if I did. smile.gif

Hey Thanks for answering these questions Muris! smile.gif To me you're a real genius, so many good solos... ah.. I listen to your licklibrary contribution almost everyday, the tone you have on that one sets you really apart from many of the famous players nowadays (steve vai, satriani... you have a way better tone and feel for music than they... but that's just my opinion)... you really should be famous. Hope your London gig this year will wake the guitar community up, so that they'll realise that another star is there...
