Tabs And Scales? |

Tabs are used for guitar per example, to shows us where to fret etc.
On the other hand, scales are used in music in general, we can play scales on every single instrument including guitar, scale is a mix of couple of that gives us certain sound (minor scale, major scale, modes etc). Not sure if this explains something for you, let me know.

Yeh tabs are musical notation for guitars and they show us where to put our fingers. Scales are groups of notes that music is made of.

I would still learn more about scales and music theory in general so you could upgrade your composing and improvising skills, without knowing theory you get very limited... I actually meant every lesson in GMC.
In the main section they have the scales and in the Explaining videos (1,2,3,4) they have tabs. --------------------  |

Yeah, tab or video in lesson will show you how to play a certain lesson.
Scale or scales used in lesson is part of theory behind, it is there to help you understand what is it that you play theory wise. -------------------- Youtube

There are some general labels that we use for all these things, and since you're just having problems distinguishing those labels, here are some short explanations:
scale (wiki quote: In music, a scale is a group of musical notes collected in ascending and descending order, that provides material for or is used to conveniently represent part or all of a musical work including melody and/or harmony. Scales are ordered in pitch or pitch class, with their ordering providing a measure of musical distance. music score/sheet music - paper with rows of 5 parallel lines where you can write music using musical symbols: notes, rests, keys, sharps, flats etc.). Good thing about scores is that they are universal and any musician can read them, downside is that they are a bit impractical for beginners on stringed instruments. tab - tabs are similar to scores, but they are more practical for use with stringed instruments as they show string lines. On those string lines there are numbers that tell exactly to place your finger on. This is more practical solution for beginners, as you know exactly where to place a finger. With scores, you cannot tell where to place the finger, because note doesn't contain that information (same note appears in more places on guitar then on piano for example). Downside is that tabs rarely contain rhythm information, so it is hard to read not durations (although guitar pro supports tabs with some basic rhythm info above the tab). scale pattern - (showed in videos, and bellow main video of GMC lessons - it is a pattern or diagram of a scale that shows what notes on the fretboard are from that scale) -------------------- - Ivan's Video Chat Lesson Notes HERE
