What Scales?, Crazy question...

G minor pentatonic works if you want Rock/Blues approach over it, but you can make it as advanced as you like. Take a look at these chords (power chords) G5 = G D Bb5 = Bb F C5 = C G These are not complete chords, they are missing some sort of 3rd in them ! Thats why they are called power chords, or intervals of perfect 5ths. In order to determine full approach to this harmony, you as improviser have ability to color these chords any way you want. In other words, you can choose whether your G power chord will become G major or G minor chord. The same thing applies for Bb and C power chords. When you think about those possibilities, solutions become endless as you have a lot of choices that you can use over basic Major or Minor chords. For example G major Bb Major C major All major chords, constant structure used in harmony. You can play G diminished (half whole scale) over first two chords (G major and Bb major) and over C major you can play different diminished scale (C half whole diminished for example). Thats a rather outside approach to these simple harmonies, but they will get you to sound cool and hip versus G minor pentatonic which everyone would do There is plenty of more approaches of course, this is just one example of what you can do with simple Power chord harmony. You get G minor, Bb minor and C minor chords. Really cool approach you can take here is use two different Melodic minor scales Over G minor use G melodic minor. Then you get two triads, Bb minor and C minor. Beauty of these two triads is that they are both contained in Melodic minor scale itself, in this case Bb melodic minor. Eventually you end up with G melodic minor and Bb melodic minor scales as your soloing options. This is very fusion sounding as we have interval of minor 3rd between two scales, which is used very frequently in Fusion music. Think about Fusion collaboration I did in February ( A minor to C minor ... You can of course do the exact same thing for Minor harmony ( G minor Bb minor and C minor) and use same half whole scales (G half whole for G and Bb, and C half whole for C minor).
