GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ Dark/melodic 8-string Demo

Posted by: thefireball Dec 14 2015, 06:51 PM

Hey everyone! smile.gif

I would like to get your feedback on this new track I have written for my band's new album. It's just a demo at present - my drummer still has to record his take (you will hear Superior Drummer), and my vocalist has to write lyrics to sing/scream.

I feel the track is influenced by bands like Red, Fit for a King, and Love & Death. If you haven't heard of those bands, I highly recommend them. This track was born from the video below, as a tone test. I loved the opening riff so much, I had to make it a full song. For this album, I decided to tune up to Drop A# with a low F on the 8 in order to maintain clarity in this heavily detuned track.

Great job mate! This track sounds really promising. You already have a great experience on this style so you are able to create really consistent tracks. Can't wait to see you growing and joining big metal / prog fests!

Listened to this a few times then forgot to respond! Duh smile.gif I dig it! For your final version, maybe pull the gain back just a pinch and double track or even quad track the guitars. I don't know if you are doing that now or not. The more layers of guitar you put on, the more you have to pull back a pinch on gain or it tuns to mud. You've got a great start on a tune here!

I would maybe say add a pinch of counterpoint/guitar harmony ala Lamb of God maybe in parts. like this one about 25 seconds in.
