Only Three Real Chords?, Ehh

Feb 8 2009, 12:25 PM	Instructor Posts: 8.109 Joined: 13-September 08 From: Nis, Serbia	There is more than 3 chords and he is wrong Major , minor, augmented, diminished, sus2, sus4 and other untraditional type of triads (voicing in forths, clusters etc). So thats just triads, once you do 4 part chords it extends drastically. Major6, Major7, Major7b5, Major7#5, Minor6, Minorb6, Minor7, MinorMaj7, Minor7b5, Dominant7, Dominat7b5, Dominant7#5, Diminished7, DiminishedMaj7 ... Then you add tensions and you get even more possibilities. I don't even want to go into Triad over Bass note concept (slash chords) or Poly chords where you stack one chord in the bottom and one on top! So yes answer is there is more than 3 chords As far as 5 shapes go, you can observe every chord voicing like it came from some sort of CAGED shape. I see nothing wrong with that. Hope that helps.
