Hello all my GMC friends!

I thought this would be a really interesting topic, and perhaps a chance for each other to get to know a little more about each other in the process! smile.gif

We all have Guitar Heroes (no pun intended) , but specifically I am interested in non Guitar heros, every day people perhaps that come from all walks of life, famous or non famous it does not matter! smile.gif

My real life hero's are my Parents, who have come from poor backgrounds and worked very hard there whole lives for what they have today! smile.gif

To me the meaning of the word "Hero" is someone who overcome problems and shines for it ! biggrin.gif Kind hearted people, people that see the good in others.

Your hero might be a doctor, a nurse, or be from any number of walks of life.

Go forth and Discuss! biggrin.gif

Matt

Alan Moore, the writer of such comics as Watchmen and V for Vendetta. I think he's one of the most underrated writers ever. I would compare his works to shakespear and whatnot.

Daniel Craig, for being the James Bond I always hoped for.

Michelle Gondry, for showing me that a childlike imagination can be a wonderful thing to hold onto.

Zan and Juggler, the famous pickup artists, for giving me a new and exciting outlook on life.

And Hunter S. Thompson for being Hunter S. Thompson (and for inspiring Warren Ellis to create the character Spider Jerusalem, from whom I derive my moniker)

This is outside the obvious (my parents, family, and people close to me)

id have to put my dad as one of my heros. Hes probably the only reason i am where i am today without im id probably be much worst off. My other heros are the people who dedicate their lives to making themselves part of a cause and are able to rise above regular human beings in the sence that their names will go on in history for almost eternity. People like Ghandi. Nelson Mandella, John Paul II, our past Dahli Lhama and many others whom i cannot think of this early in the morning. Anyone who fights to overcome bad times and circumstanced they cannot control can be classified as heros these are the everday people. One group who i have classified as "heros" although it is probabaly controversial, are the freedom fighters of Guam and the members of the Mexican revolution. These are people who are considered to be horrible people who fight against their governments but i believe these are people who are willing to sacrifice everything for a greater good and this is what classifies a hero for me..

My mother - my parents divorced when I was very young and she worked 3 jobs to keep the house and put food on the plates. Can't say my father as he was not a nice man and in many ways I try to be as different from him as I can be.

I also admire Antonio Negri, and before him Antonio Gramsci and Ghandi, who have the strength and courage in their beliefs for a better society to go to jail repeatedly for them.

Cheers,
Tony

Thankyou for shareing Smikey and Tony, great posts. On the subject of Heroes, I think it is also very important to aspire to be someone people will look up to also. I like trying to help out young people as much as possible, with whatever problems or issues they have.

Sometimes you may not think you have much to offer, but if you scratch the surface you may often find you have plenty of experiences that others may benifit from! smile.gif

I think my Hero would have to a be a guy that I met in a local pub one evening, must have been in my early 20`s, was out of work and at an all time low in my life, borderline alcholic, and very depressed, my parents couldnt (or wouldnt) see it.
This guy (Brian) used to go in the pub most nights and sit on his own in the corner, I knew he had his own business so out of the blue one night (after several beers) I walked over to him pulled up a chair and said "giz a job" laugh.gif his reply? "if ya got the nerve to come and ask me for a job then the least I can do is give you a job" smile.gif never looked back, gave me a job, self esteem, money in me pocket, I owe an awful lot to him, I wouldnt have the job I have today had it not been for him I wish I could say my parents (I love them dearly) but they just did nothing in this hard time for me.

I thought this was going to be an in depth discussion about the TV-show heroes!

But this topic might even be better! tongue.gif

Anyways, I admire my parents and all, but I still disagree with them a lot. However, I think they would still qualify as heroes, since even if we don't share all views in the world, they are down to earth and relaxed about what they think, and that is the most important thing for me, thats what I'm trying to become!

I've got a lot of actors that I admire, I don't know if it counts as heroes, but I really admire some great actors like Zach Braff, Natalie Portman, Adrien Brody, and many more.

But the people I consider "true" heroes would be old scientists and philosofers who fought everybody else to get that they belived through. People like Galileo Galilei, Socrates (the way he died is epic) and people like those. I know it may sound stupid, but the courage they had is amazing, and I really admire that.

Oooooooh, my father, because he is a true example of what hard work can get you.

He started out as a truck driver for a company that sells electric supplies(Branch Electric). He worked his way up to Warehouse transportation manager for his branch in Branch Electric. He must have done this for some 10-12 years. One day Branch Electric was bought by a much larger, and worldwide company called: Rexel. When this happened my father had enough recognition as a good worker, and it landed him a job in the USA Main Office for Rexel. He went from truck driver to head of transportation for the entire USA.

On a side note, he's an excellent golf partner, and I love playing with him. laugh.gif

I wish I could say my parents, that would be the right thing I guess, but they weren't there when I grew up. We have better relationship now as adults, but I've always been closer to my grand parents and in many ways they are the ones who raised me and fixed me up when things went wrong. Unfortunatly they have both passed away some years ago. So, to my heroes, my grandparents.

My Mom of course, after my parents divorced she had to work very hard to give my brothers and me everything.

And I would say Nando Parrado, he is not my hero but he is a person a really admire. Nando Parrado is from Uruguay, he was a rugby player and in 1975 when he was flying with his team from uruguay to Chile the plane crashed in the Andes and they lived in the mountain for 72 days, its an amazing story , maybe someone watched a movie called Alive, it was based on that story , but if you have the oportunity to read the book do it , is just an awesome true story. The book is called "MIracle in the Andes" by Nando Parrado.

bye.

I'll say Robin - he can endure my msn rants laugh.gif

I think I'll have to say Kris though, not just as a great guitarist - which I respect him for, but for being able to create such an influential site which has helped gather thousands of people from across the world together and to keep it true to its original goal, it takes great vision and patience to do something like this that in the end we all appreciate so much.

It shows hard work pays off and that anyone who works hard, is honest to themselves and to others in reaching their goals can get there. Anyone who does so is a hero in my eyes!

I agree, Kris like owen said, for giving us GMC smile.gif

And ill have to say John Marco, R.A. Salvatore, Richard Matheson (my favorite authors) for getting me through those rough times when music was not available.

Final Fantasy and Metal Gear Solid, this may seem strange, but they are a good escape away from reality, takes my minds off things, calms me down, and for telling the greatest storys off all time smile.gif
