Hello there,

I have gotten lots of worried pm:s about possible copyright infringement regarding Hisham's two last lessons. Thanks a lot for your commitment! biggrin.gif Here is a little clarification.

What we have lisences for:

The instructor may record their own version of a famous song.

What is not allowed.

The instructors may NOT tab a famous song. Not even their own interpretation of the song may be tabbed.

The instructor may NOT use someone else's recording.

As for Hisham's latest lesson, he only tabs his own harmonies of the famous Evanescence song (this is my understanding) - which is ok.

Last note: If the composer of the song died over 70 years ago - it is no longer is copyrighted. That is why we can cover famous classical songs in our acoustic lessons.

Well copyright violation aside, i think i prefer to click on a new lesson and find some original material. At the moments it is possible to see lots of similarities in the melodies created over these "famous" songs, infact almost half of each of the 2 lessons sound almost identical to me.

Maybe this is a preference that only i have...

However i'm still quite confused as to why we have suddenly gone down the road of not using original material?

It just doesnt feel much like a GMC lesson when i open up a "famous" lesson.

I totally agree.

If I wanted to play "famous" songs I'd get a tab of Ultimate Guitar and learn the original.

Everyone always plays the 4th movement of Summer because it is "heavy" and "shreddy," however I think they are all awesome. So many cool licks in Spring especially, infact classical music is a pretty good place to get licks from because you can bet that only a few other people are going to try the same thing. I haven't heard the entire Winter or Autumn yet, just like the first five minutes of both, both really cool so far though. I got so much music for Christmas it is ridiculous I can't listen to it all. Some of the stuff I got is

Tony MacAlpine
Vinnie Moore
Miles Davis
John Coltrane
Schubert
Paganini
Haydn
Mozart
Beethoven
Vivaldi
Dream Theater
Symphony X
Shawn Lane
Opeth
Stevie Ray Vaughn
Cacophony

EDIT: I think something like Paganini Caprices would be more appropriate for GMC than Four Seasons though, since Paganini is like solo and Four Seasons is like full orchestra. I learned some of Spring on my guitar and too be honest it sounds much better with the legato sound of a violin. For Paganini maybe a lesson on the first minute of Capricci 20th would be good, it is really beautiful and simple.

Glad we're not on our own their then wink.gif .

I wouldn't mind being given a different point of view as to how these "famous" lessons work- am i seeing it from one side only? What do you others think? What are the benefits of these lessons over original material? Certainly caused a bit of a stir in the forum and in lessons comments thats for sure....

I cant exactly see how they could be taylored for GMC's needs like a normal lesson could, in essense it conforms rigidly to the core of a particular song which means that an array of ideas and styles is harder to get across in such a shortened period of time - full songs being 3 minutes approx and lessons only being about 1 minute for the full composition.

I play the Flight of The Bumblebee as a picking exercise!! Chromatic scale + 200 bpm blink.gif blink.gif blink.gif nightmare, but someday i'll get it biggrin.gif slowly slowly

And about the topic, I agree with DeepRoots... I prefer an original lesson than a derived one smile.gif But lessons derived from classical music would be awesome, I'm sure!
