Building Speed, Altrernate Picking

Jan 6 2008, 12:06 AM	GMC:er Posts: 41 Joined: 22-June 07	I'm looking for an effective way to build alternate picking speed(especially left hand speed). I want to build overall speed and not for any particuler piece. I've been working with a few of the lessons and they seem to help. I know this will take a lot of time and patience. Literally I just work on them slowly for months and this eventually turns into controlled speed. Remember controll is the name of the game here!! Welcome to the quest for speed Lessons here at GMC are excellent for building up speed, just keep playing maybe with metronome and speed WILL come !! I suggest you play some chromatic scale exercises too... They sure helped me a lot! Plus you could end up playing an electrified version of Flight of the Bumblebee if you get good at that!! I have been goin through verious speed picking lessons on this site and they have probably been the most helpful on my journey so far. I have found that if you focus on control and smaller movements that speed will come. Thanks again. Any more suggestions would be gladly accepted. When you started strumming guitar at first, you didn't hit all the chords very well, correct? What was it that made you strum the chords better and made your rythmn better? Playing cleanly and relaxed is the best guide, and then increase speed as you feel comfortable. I start some stuff as low as 20 if I am having trouble with it.
