Couple things I'd like to say.

Mother nature is not humans fault and we cannot control it, no matter how much people think they can.

Building and living in a city that is on the coast, in a high hurricane zone, and below sea level is like almost asking to have your house destroyed.

The federal budget was 13 trillion or something like that last year. The 3 quadtrillion is a joke I assume because it wouldn't even be possible, and if it was, it wouldn't be reasonable, and even if it was, the govt. wouldn't give it still.

Living in America makes you very cynistic biggrin.gif.

I wouldn't say so, just because the dumbest make the news, doesn't mean were all like that tongue.gif . Secondly of course he wont get the money, as far as i know, no country in history in its existence has made this much money, or even a third of it, this amount of money doesn't exist in the modern world and probably wont ever exist, its supposed to be a message.

Lastly, he wasn't suing FOR the hurricane, he was suing for the poor reaction and response to it, and the damage it caused. Or so thats what it says.

first off, let me say to the Unceator, nice sig. Is that Salma H. SWEEET!
ok, so back to the topic. I know that fema broke down on this one. I do feel sorry for all the people that were involved, they do deserve federal help to get back on there feet but frivilous lawsuits like this are ridiculous. IMO, If I wanted to look at property on any coast, I would have to consider natural disaters, hence, high ins. premiums.

This was a situation where most of these people were born and raised and lost everything. Ok, they want to send a mesg, and should. The attorneys at this point should be the ones to advise. I would love to know which one came up with this number! Be realistic! send a mesg like this and it gets local coverage. I don't recall seeing anything on on CNN or MSNBC or any news stations.

I'm done on this one!

I love you guys! rolleyes.gif

The federal governments job is foreign policy, relations, economy, etc. Natural disasters are generally left to the states. Seeing as how Katrina was a pretty big one, I agree the federal govt. should have helped some, but people shouldn't blame them for a slow response or whatever seeing as how it isn't their responsibilty in the first place.

After such large disasters I'm assuming that the state is going to need significant central government funding - I think natural occurences such as this could reap havoc on a financial budget.

Overall, I find it rather suspicious that the response to the California fires was so much greater, they even had wifi in the Stadiums and paid entertainment. Funny the difference exposed when rich white people are at the centre of a natural disaster compared to poor black people. All this crap in the news about how American government's response was so much improved because they were more prepared. Hah. I dont believe a word of that.

I thought some of the instances in the California fires were shocking too though - Rich white landowners running away to clean stadiums in their jeeps when they see the fire - practically luxury in such conditions whilst leaving illegal immigrated hispanics to stay in the fields and burn.

Tis one of the reasons I would dislike living in the USA - that I feel its such a class dictated society. Although to be honest its beginning to get that way here in the 51st state...

Its easy to judge a whole people by their elected government ... I have made that mistake in the past. But George Bushes America is not a lot like the America I see having moved here - there are a lot of friendly awesome nice people here (as you know from GMC), just as there are in Scotland. People are people wherever you go. Some are nice, some are not, but you can't put a label on them, based on what you see in the media. You can only put a label on them if you have met each and every one of them!

I daresay the UK looks a little weird from abroad with Gordon Brown as Prime Minister (certainly does to me,and I am British!). The USA has been nothing but kind and welcoming to me, and I am not even a citizen ... just some weird immigrant smile.gif

Yes, the fingerprint thing does suck though - now I don't have to have mine taken every time I enter the country because they are permanently on file in immigration blink.gif

Anyhow, not arguing really, just saying that I have found the USA to be an awesome place, and I absolutely love the people here - the politics are what they are, politics, just don't judge the whole country and its people with them is I guess what my point is.

I said I was done, but well put Andrew. It's all political propaganda you see in the news. I bet 75% of the population here in the states are not happy with the the way we are projected to the international community.

Yeah, and they will, at everybody else's expense. I guess the families of the people who died in the Indianapolis bridge collapse should go ahead and send a msg to! After all, we can always blame disaster like these on human error. Hell, befor we know it, we'll all be self insured wink.gif

ROFL, man you amaze me, the Minnesota bridge collapse "WAS" human error, they recently proved that the collapse was due to a design flaw in the bridge. Just like the New Orleans problem was directly due to the flawed design of the levees by the coprs of engineers. Sure there was a hurricane but, the levees were supposed to be there to protect the people in cases where the water rose to an unsafe level. Had they been designed properly they would have held and therefore not as many people would have died, suffered monetarily and been displaced etc... IMHO you do shabby work you should be held accountable, if that means you are sued for an insane amount of money then so be it.
