related question. I have an american strat, recent, standard. agree, sound is very unique. but I have not played it much. bought it new over a year ago. used to very heavy distortion. i would find that really did not work with the strat.

I describe it this way, and I think this is the case. with real heavy high pitched distortion, it seems that the overtones on a vibrating strings are not consonant with the base frequency of the vibrating string. I know that is the case, know enough about acoustics to know it. I just figured that was a strat for you, and it does not work well with such heavy distortion.

does this on all pickups. i tried changing strings, but new strings are cheap, as were the old strings. can't imagine how anythng could be wrong, other than it would be less pronounced with better strings maybe. or possibly a capacitor. but I figured, that is just a strat for you. they sound like they do, but you don't put as heavy high pitched distortion as you would with a humbucker. I just figure the strat what it is, accentuates this more than other guitars, but not sure.

any strat experts that can shed light here? i mean real strat experts, not speculators. I can speculate with the best of them, have enough of that. it is the overtones clashing with the base frequency of the string under above conditions, I know that.

I'll admit that a whammy bar is fun to play on, but Gibson and anything LP will blow away the best Strat you can find. In my opinion, if you want more in your tone, just upgrade the pickups. That will get you a much, much better sound and be s fraction of the cost of an American Strat even if you the nicest pickups you could want.

I have a mexican made standard strat and I like it very much. A lot of people though complain about the quality of the mexican made ones. The only conclusion i've come to about them is that buying one is taking a chance because you may get one that's great or you may get one that's not built as well (I've heard others saying this too).

That's it, I have a mex strat which sounds really very near to an American one. However the pickups aren't very good (the sound isn't as pwerful a si like) that's why in these days I was thinking about changing them.

I have Japanese strat, heard the earlier ones where if not better of same quality as american ones.
But changed the neck.
But I personally dont know how diff an american strat will sound, i think its all about build quality, wood can be the same anywhere. And sometimes, i think even the brand name it self can add alot to the overall cost.
I mean look EVH's guitars he himself did not spend that much on his guitars ended up getting a good guitar sound.

I agree with an earlier post that alot of it is personal preference, the individual guitars vary slightly too, I have a Mexican strat that I think is fantastic, I replaced the bridge pickup with a seymour duncan hotrails because the original pickup was too "thin" under heavy distortion, as well as noisy being single coil, I`ve tried an American deluxe strat, and although there is a definate quality "Feel" difference the mexican made strat played equally as well, if I had been buying the Strat as my "main" guitar then I would certainly have gone for the American.

I use mine a lot, I love the way it feels, its light, comfortable, for me, its biggest drawback is mine has 22 frets, all my other guitars have 24 frets and its suprising how you miss them when they arnt there! laugh.gif

I`m not a heavy whammy bar user, I prefer to have it than not so I have no tuning issues with the strat, to be fair even under use I dont find tuning an issue on this particular strat.

all in all I like them, wouldnt hesitate in buying another if I was in the market smile.gif

I'd rather have a YJM Strat than any LP.
