Tomorrow, I go in and have surgery done on my right hand (picking hand). Since I was born I've had a problem with it which was somewhat corrected when I was about two years old. I'd show you a picture but I don't have one on hand tongue.gif

Basically, there were never enough muscles in the meaty part of my thumb, and plus the thumb itself is slightly forward (like if I were to have my palm face my nose, the thumb would come closer to the nose than the other hand, which is normal). and doesn't bend quite as easily in the joint. Part of the problem was solved by taking muscles from from another part of the hand and putting them in my thumb, which resulted in some cool scars and a good deal of functionality, but this surgery is going to widen the distance between my thumb and index finger (just by cutting skin).

I'm partially hoping this will help my picking, but thats not the real reason I'm doing it. I think my picking is more or less fine and normal and I can hold the pick like most of you do (thumb and side of index finger). But I'm just sitting here tonight hoping that whatever happens tomorrow doesn't set me back any or anything like that blink.gif

I know or know of other guitarists who have slight to serious problems (I'd consider mine very slight in regards to my playing) with their hands, curious if anyone at GMC does. I'm left handed because of it and I'd probably play guitar left handed except I'm not really capable of resting my hand on the neck and fretting strings at the same time, it just won't stretch that far, and though I don't plan to start all over again left handed thats another thing tomorrow might fix tongue.gif

Just kinda nervous. Not my first surgery but I just hope it goes well tongue.gif

I hope everything goes well. And trust me, you don't want to play left handed. It's a pain to find decent guitars.... wink.gif

Good luck tomorrow man!

Hope everything goes well with they surgery smile.gif.

I have mild Cerebral Palsy in both of my hands, so sometimes my fingers lock up and other times I don't have much stamina to play the guitar.
