Im not up to scratch when it comes to pickups; I know the difference between Active and Dormant (Inactive), and I also know that my PRS SE has 2 Active Humbuckers on it
Im looking to get new pickups; Ive traverse the interwebs and listened alot of sound clips and narrowed it down to these five:

Breed Neck
Mo' Joe
Evolution Neck
Steve's Special
Evo2 Bridge

All of these pickups can be used as either bridge or neck, so I just need to make a definate decision.. and i need GMC's Wizardlike knowledge to help me smile.gif

Mind that the soundclips you've listened to may not be spot on when the pickups are in your guitar.

I'm not sure how the Steve's special is tonewise but try to find out if they are trebly or bassy. If your guitar is made from mahugnaly you should rule out the bassy ones and aim for more trebly pickups since mahoganly add a lot to the bass frequences.
Like the Breed for example, I have a couple of those in a Charvel made from adler, these are very bassy and sounded "muddy" in a Les Paul but sounded great in the Charvel.
I have a couple of Evolutions that I'll be putting in a basswood guitar (Ibanez) and I suppose that will work out fine. They would work great in an adler guitar (look at Steve Vai's Jem) but it's a questionmark about putting those in a mahogany wood guitar.
It's subjective of course, not everyone will agree with me but facts are that wood and the pickups work together and it's about that I'm reasoning. I've just presented to you how I'd go about choosing the right pickup. If someone says Breed sound teriffic in a mahogany guitar - how can I argue with that? It's up to the person listening, just that I've tried it and it didn't result well.

Since I belive your SE is made from mahogany and I'm not sure the ones I know (Breed and Evo) will work well and I don't know how Steve's special and MoJoes are tones I can't recommend any of them. You could take a chanse with the Evo's though, they could work.

Super dist + 59 maybe?
JB + Jazz maybe?

Because your guitar is made out of mahogany, I would suggest buying the Evo pickup, since it's a bright pickup, and mahogany is such a dark wood, so it would balance the sound a bit, so it doesn't get too dark/muddy smile.gif

Im going to probably buy a Evolution into my Les Pauls bridge position too! smile.gif

ive decided on;

Evolution Neck and Steves Special

But, im very interested in the EMG Afterburner (http://www.emginc.com/displayproducts.asp?...mp;catalogid=69)
and the EMG EXG (http://www.emginc.com/displayproducts.asp?...p;catalogid=133)

I have 2 questions; Would it be dangerous to drill the guitar to make way for the 2 Accessories (Not so much Dangerous, 'destructive' for want of a word)

And would the wiring be hard/wouldnt work because of the Dimarzio pickups/Emg addons?

Sorry if the questions are vague, i cant really word what i want to say xD

The result of the drilling is rather up to you, impossible to answer. If you're good with tools and know your think you'll manage the drilling without cracking the laquer and avoiding wood chips.

About whether you can install the knobs with passive pickups or not I'm sure you can find out by reading. I opened the first link where it says in the text "It works with both active and passive pickups" so I suppose you havn't even read it yourself?
Please read it through, plenty of the answers you are looking for are there already. I will gladly help you at my best ability but I'm not going to spell out the text to you which is aleady there.

If you are going to manage any of this you have to read up, check the scematics, understand what you're supposed to do and then take care of the problems that will pop up. Otherwise I'm afraid you will end up with nothing...

Probably a wise desicion, I don't think the wiring would be a piece of cake either. Especialy if something goes wrong and you have to search for errors.
