I hate having congestion. hate it.

So far I've taken (not all at once, mind you):

Afrin nasal spray - good stuff, but not getting the job done this time.
Motrin Sinus Headache - gets rid of the headache but dried up my nose something fierce, got a big fat nose bleed at lunch
Tylenol Cold Head Congestion Severe - gives me crazy medicine head, doesn't really work though.

Anyone else have a good cold remedy? Good old fashioned Sudafed doesn't really do much for me. Advil Cold & Sinus is pretty good but on my last trip to the store, I couldn't find any on the shelf.

Recommendations?

Ice cream and all other dairy products, such as cheese, milk, etc, actually make congestion worse. wink.gif

My mom had some lady tell her about "nasal washes" one time, so I gave it a shot and it works great. What you do is fill up a cup or something with water and some salt (not too much or you could burn out your nose) then take a seringe (without the needle of course) and squirt the salt water up your nose. Then just blow your nose.

Yeah, Vitamins should help atleast a little, although I've been sick for almost a week already and I don't feel a bit better, in fact I feel like a zombie walking the earth. Anyway they do say that it's important to take vitamins when you sick.

for me + a cold = a big bowl a chicken noodle soup... and a neo-citron (found in your local pharmacy.. i recommend the hot apple/cinnamon flavour) blowing nose constantly.. and just not doing anything.. trying to go on with a cold just makes it worst i find...

You got to do this at the first sign so it is too late for you, but I swear by the Airborne product. It was invented by an elementary school teacher. Works 99.9% percent of the time for me.

not after I have one. but have not had one in a long time that amounted to anything. because I use the
Zinc nasal spray if I think I might be heading into a cold. You have to use it right away, if you wait it will be too late, the virus is vulnerable to the Zinc only in the early stages. It is call something with a Z, let me look. Zicam nasel gel. Look for the one with the Zinc in it. If I feel a sore throat in the morning I will use it immediately, even when i don't know if it is a cold coming. If you get to it early enough you can pass on it nearly totally. I used to have several bad ones a year, hated that. Never have them anymore.

Won't help you now, but next time...

I used to do that when I used to have colds (see above). Actually I should do that anyway, it is a Yoga cleansing routine.

edit: the easy way is to just hold one nostral shut and suck it up directly with the other one tough your nose and spit it out. use warm water in a cup with some salt in it. put enough salt in so it does not burn, just water will make your nose hurt doing it. a lot of yucky stuff comes out. but it really makes you feel good, you guys should try it. thanks for reminding me.

real Yogis pull cloth though it, but I will leave that for the real Yogis.

evidently i don't know how to spell nostral, but I am too lazy to look it up right now.

There is actulally a better way by using a neti pot (I just use a funnel and a gatorade bottle because I'm too cheap. smile.gif). Here a link to a walkthrough. http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Cean-Your-Sinuses/.
P.S. Experament with how you head is tilted, usally the first time thing don't work out too good.
P.P.S. Don't skip the salt or its really painful.

As I Stated before I've been feeling really sick for some time now(Nausea, headache, exhaustion, throat ache), But I just came out of Sauna and I feel so refreshed no headache, no nausea and my throat aching got a little easier INSTANTLY! blink.gif

Of course sauna can be dangerous if you have a lot of body temperature, but if you feel sick without the temperature I recommend it. smile.gif

Just have a mug of hot orange juice or lemon juice and that will unblock your nose and sooth your throat.
