Hey,

I'm kinda in a bind here.

I'm planning on buying a new guitar.
I got a budget around 2000 €.

So what is the better choice?

An ESP eclipse II (vintage black) or an comparable guitar by ibanez?

curious about your opinions.

grtz

I wouldn't get either but if I was forced in a life or death situation I'd go for ESP as I'd rather play a cheese board than an Ibanez biggrin.gif

That's really apples and oranges. I'd take the Eclipse II over a Gibson, but I like metal and Gibsons aren't really equipped for it out of the box quite like an ESP.

I've never played an Esp that suited me perfectly but I would always choose one before an Ibanez. It would be the best if you take the eclipse and a comparable Ibanez and try them out a a music store. You will definitely prefer one of them.

That's some great advice...doing an A/B test in a shop.

I own an older version of the Eclipse now alongside an 80's Ibanez. I can do my own test, but what I have isn't like what you're going to try out new in a guitar shop. Both brands have some interesting stuff across different price points.

For what it's worth, I prefer how the Roadstar sounds and I prefer how the Eclipse feels. But what it comes down to is my own preferences and the individual characteristics of each guitar. I'm sure there's an Ibanez out there that I prefer the feel of and an ESP that sounds better.

According to this poll, more GMC members use Ibanez than any other type of guitar.

There's no real way anyone can tell you what to go for as you'll have your own individual preference for sound and feel. Personally I prefer Ibanez.

Sorry for interception but for 2000 € you can get something like
Pensa,Musicman,PRS,Suhr,Gibson etc or even to build a fine custom.

Both Ibanez and ESP are cool brands but you can spend
you money on more classy instrument,
no offense tho, that's just my personal opinion . smile.gif

More classy than a JEM?!?!?!? ohmy.gif

Ok, it might look like a bachelors pad in the 80s, but the tone...THE TONE!!!

If you get an Eclipse, I wouldn't get the EMG models, if you're paying that kind of scratch for those quality woods, let them have a chance to affect the tone, and not just belt out the old constant that EMG is heralded for. You could buy a cheaper guitar with EMG's if you want that crunch. I'd look at the SD loaded Eclipse.

the SD Eclipse I'd put against the JEM for tone every day. Evolution/Basswood isn't for everyone. JEM will be more playable unless you're an LP fan where you need that heft.

Both are fine instruments. You really can't go wrong, you just need to figure out what suits your tastes.

Mate, go for a vintage Charvel Model 6. These are the best kept secret when it comes to guitars. Just read the reviews on harmony central. And you'll have change from your budget to keep the missus sweet when she discovers that you've bought a new axe.
