I only eyed through the article. I'm quite confident the ISP's will fight this and find all means possible to keep it between them and their customers what's being downloaded.

An ISP would do what they can to keep their customers, imagine losing 50% of their customers over night because of mp3 restrictions. blink.gif
Possibly jumping to competition that's not so particular. Hence the serious companies will be in trouble while dubious companies will prosper.

It's as silly as if Toyota would forbid anyone who speeded with the brand to buy a Toyota ever again but refer them to another brand, or even take their car back if it's used for speeding.

I can't see this ever happening. I could fail for a number of reasons. IPS's protecting their customers is one. Pirates managing new file formats to hide mp3's is another. As mentioned earlier in the thread legal mp3's have to be separated from illeagal ones, it's not the format that's illeagal. One more reason is that it would be a big violation of the personal integrity to spy on your downloads.

Never gonna happen.

1st infringement - Warning email
2nd - Banned from ISP
3rd - Court prosecution.

Hmmm. How would you ever go to 3, after being 2:d? biggrin.gif

The industry is panicing and the commercialism is collapsing. This is scary really and can have big implications for us all in the long run.

What scares me most is that those who are supposed to make the important decisions, the politicians, have no clue at all.
They run around in circles yelling hystericaly and now and then they run off in a random direction and sets a new law or restriction.

We need people with healthy minds to sit down and think about:
The situation today and why we have certain rules.
How we would like it to be and why would we like it that way.
Find a healthy balance between creativity, supplier and consumer. Without one there is no other.
What rules do we need to achieve that goal?

Sitting in a sandbox with your bucket, hitting everyone whith the shovel and yelling "Mine-mine-mine-mine!" when the sand is pooring out through the holes in your bucket and everyone else is getting a tan on the beach isn't very productive.
New laws and regulations might close the beach and the police can drive you away, but everyone will find another beach.

I don't download.. File sharing is the way smile.gif + buying albums... i don't consider it stealing.. i consider it borrowing what others have bought.. i really don't understand this whole concept. sad.gif As long as i can buy albums in stores and get the odd song in a fileshareing program im happy..

Maybe Steve though ITunes etc won't be happy - whatever they do they need to let through the legal stuff or there will be hell on. Imagine paying for a legal mp3 only for your ISP to kill it sad.gif .

Well, you're not getting MP3's from iTunes anyway. AAC...kind of an MPEG-4 thing.

They really can't block mp3 files going over the network. Well, technically speaking it can be done, but politically you can't really do it. MP3's aren't just for pirated music. Amazon sells MP3s. So does CDBaby. An ISP that blocks MP3s is signing its death warrant.
