He would be so much better if he spent all those years focusing on being musical instead of on doing technical tricks and showing off.

I found this quite boring. Not as boring as some of his other stuff.

Rain forest is alot more interesting to me. Super strong melody. And still some runs but not boring ones that last for 30 seconds.

Great player, but his hair cut looks like a lions mane smile.gif.

All in all, probably wouldn't buy his CD.

I love MAB, has made some really great tunes and some kickass instructional videos.. but still, when he starts with those fancy moves, i cant help but think that it's mostly advanced partytricks, well, partytricks that most of us will never be able to do smile.gif
But it serves no real purpose to the music.. Still really entertaining to look at though smile.gif

Well, except that Rick Nielson of Cheap trick was doing that stuff (hand on top of the guitar, playing a 5 neck guitar, and jumping around at the same time). So it is not original.

I understand that standards have risen in the past 25-30 years, but Nielson was more of a showman that Batio could ever be. I mean, the guy dressed up like a 1940's movie serial character (Satch of the Bowery Boys).

While one of the better guitarists of his time, he also had the good sense to hook up with 3 guys who could share the spotlight with him, and so his band became well known, while just about nobody has heard of Batio in the general public.

As did Jimmy Page (who when he hooked up with Zep was the most in demand studio guitarist in Britain). But he had the good sense to join a band and be part of something bigger, otherwise he would have been forgotten before anybody had even heard of him.

Batio is skilled, but he does nothing that adds a thing to what say Gilbert does, so I don't bother with him.

Michael said it himself about those moves he does - he said it in every instructional that it is just for show because people come to a show to watch a show not just a dumb face playing his pieces biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Michael is amazing at what he does and deserves full respect for being the "cleanest" shredder out there.

Everyone has their favorites as stated, but you also got to remember...

If you have seen him in clinic, he's a really nerdy guy. He's done a lot for others, instead of only for himself. Which I find pretty cool....and I used to hate seeing those over under tricks, but it's sooooo different live. It's enjoyable. He also may show off, but I think he has a right. xD

His melodic riffs are amazing. :]

I see him on my bday march 2nd! w00t
