Okay, so I have this weird pain in my fretting hand. It's between my ring and middlefinger, and basically it hurts when I'm fretting with the ring finger. So if I fret with the ring finger at some hard place or with a big stretch, this weird pain wave hits between my middle and ring finger, it's like something stings me there and I have to stop playing and shake it or massage it or what ever.... sad.gif And I'm kinda freaking out unsure.gif because it won't go away, I even took a three days break of playing and hoped that it would heal, but no sad.gif Maybe it's beacuse I'm not warmin up enough or something, but one thing is for sure, I'm going nuts... blink.gif

Any advice will be appreciated smile.gif

Hmm it looks like i had when i was practicing with the band, well i think for me it was because my muscles were tired from training and guitar playing, try to give it a rest and look how its over 1 or 2 days ?

i start off playing extremely slow warming up, i had some small pains before but i seem to have got rid of it now.

warm up extremely slowly for a good 5 minutes at least before you play,

i first start off with a john petruci chromatic execise

remember - really really painfull slow wink.gif

then i go onto this satriani warm up chord thing (starts at 00:33)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-H72ECeZBs...feature=related ( do it a bit slower than he does though)

then i do the petrucci exercise again but slowly increase speed until i feel comforatble enough.

Dont freak out too bad- with the right amount of rest and good warmig up my hand problem went away- remember that if it continues you should see a doctor smile.gif

5-10 minutes f warming up may seem alot but its very important to get the blood going etc , just think that you may be putting your hand out of action if you dont.

Take care, and report back with any news about your hand- hope it recovers soon.

It means you should rest!
And that is no fun.. sad.gif

But it probably also means that - if treated properly - you are just about to break through a barrier.
Which will make your playing better.
So, don't ruin it! laugh.gif

Start by playing something - a bend, a riff, a scale, a song - very slowly; if you make a mistake, start over; do this over and over, until you can play it flawlessly - and I do mean flawlessly - many times in a row. Next, gradually increase the tempo. Eventually you'll be flailing like a madman.

Yeah, I hate that I'll have to take a break from playing, because it's the only thing that makes me happy these days smile.gif
But I'm just afraid that something serious might happen and I won't able to play at all and that would be even worse than a couple of days of break smile.gif

Guess I've been pretty damn lucky since I don't do any serious warming-up. huh.gif
Try resting few more days and then do warming up all the time.
And if still hurts then consult a doctor,it'd be wise. smile.gif

+ 1 with deep roots. A painfull slow warmup might really help things. I suffered ALOT of hand pain in the first 6 months, the point when my fingers even locked up and I looked like a crab laugh.gif blink.gif

The problem was, that I was not warming up correctly - as soon as I learnt to start slow and end up fast towards the end of my practice routine the problems went away.

Good luck!!

I would stop playing or diminish the exercises for a couple of days to prevent serious damage.

I think the hand has healed pretty nicely and I'm now ready to get back to my daily practicing... These past couple of days that I've been taking a break, I've been creating a good practice routine, that looks like this:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- WARM UP/STRETCHES --- 30 min - 1 hour

- DAVID O' TOOLES CHORD LESSONS ( LEARN NEW CHORD GROUPS )
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TECHNIQUE --- 2 - 3 hours

LESSONS

- Pull-Offs Lesson ( Legato ) 15-30 min
- Legato Exercise Lesson ( Legato ) 15-30 min
- Alternate Picking - Upstroke Focus ( Alternate Picking ) 15-30 min
- Alternate Picking Chops ( Alternate Picking ) 15-30 min
- Sweep Picking Lesson ( Sweep Picking ) 15-30 min
- Sweeping Basics ( Sweep Picking ) 15-30 min
- Kris' 101 Guitar Tapping Video Lessons ( Tapping ) 15-30 min
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THEORY BOARD

- DAVID WALLIMAN THEORY LESSONS

- ANDREW COCKBURN's THEORY LESSONS
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CONTINUE MY LESSONS -CHALLENGE
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Lessons -challenge is my own lesson planer kind of thing, where I practice lessons in an order, but don't mind about that smile.gif

With this new practice routine, I think I can reach some new levels with my playing, hopefully smile.gif And I'm adding some extra time on the warm ups, to keep my hands good and healthy biggrin.gif

See ya

Its probably strain from practising (muscle memory), everyone gets it when they approach something new

Consider it like growing pain, your muscles gaining the 'memory' of your actions, allowing you to do it

It should subside quickly, and once it does it should make everything slightly easier smile.gif
