Good topic TJ.
 Most of the time I use only one guitar but it depends of gig, there are situation when I need more than 2 electric and few acoustics. Acoustic guitars go through DI box while I use my regular stuff for electric, 2:90 Mesa power amp,Triaxis and G-Force(Prophesy was before that),custom 2x12 cab(100watts each) or/and Marshall 4x12(70watts each). Pedals are Midi Mate,Morley Wah,Whammy,TU-2 and few other things.

One should never gig without a backup (guitar/amp) but never the less I always go with one guitar and one amp. I do bring a set of strings and some tools, not the pneumatic drill but some screwdrivers and pliers.
There are a few ways to go about a live rig. Pros with solid state amps is that you won't break it, tube amps dislikes to be moved around too much. There's a bigger risk of a useless amp with broken tubes. Amp ----- 2x12 or 4x12 cab plus 50W tube head or >100W solidstate head or a 2x12 combo same wattage Rack ----- Same wattage as above. Preamp, poweramp, effectsunit inbetween unless the preamp is also including effects. Drive the poweramp to a cab or the preamp through a PA Floorunit ---------- Run it to the PA directly A good way to go about it could be to go for Amp or Rack and bring a floor unit as backup. -------------------- My bands homepage

I need my guitar and the cable when going live. I like Marshall sound, but I can adjust to any amp found on the site quickly if I had a tone rehearsal. I can play all the stuff without effects, but it would be good to have at least a footswitch for the amp. Wah is welcome too.
On the other hand, I think 2 guitars, good pedalboard, and a good amp/cab are all that a guitarist needs most of the time. Unfortunately one must find a compromise over quantity. I would love to have all the interesting gear, but I can't carry it around too easy. I already have troubles carrying my pedalboard, small combo amp, and a guitar + the stands and a backpack.
