The only guitarist I wanted to sound like was Scott Ian, when I first started out.. But I think I forgot about that pretty early on and since then it's been pretty much to sound like myself only better I think..
And I've gotten better in the last two weeks I've been here so I'm happy smile.gif

My friends allways compare me to Gary Moore, calling me the russian Gary Moore tongue.gif
I just take it as a compliment because he is a big influence on me, but he's just an influence, it's nice to get compared to someone like him but ultimtly I hope that in the end I won't be compared to anyone smile.gif

I find another problem with comparing yourself to other players. often it's discouraging!. You'll hear some cat really getting down, it's hard to not think "wow, I'll never sound like that"
Just gotta keep on practicing!

That's actually the oppisite of how I feel. I hear someone shredding it up, and it just motivates me even more. So, yeah I always compare myself smile.gif

It's in human nature to compare himself with other people. If you find something you like in other people you tend to copy that, and that is how the influence starts. We have a lot of influences, and it is wise not to stuck to long on certain players and music, because you will sound very much alike that. It is not always like this, but it can be the case quite often. Great Miles Davis stated that he would be a much better player if he didn't hear any records of other jazz musicians. He would be more original. smile.gif
