I torn between a Jackson DK2M Dinky, which is a great guitar, and the Dean Vendetta 4.0 w/ Floyd Rose which has a neck- thru for just $30 more. tongue.gif
Wichever one I get, I plan on fitting it with Seymour Duncan Blackout hmbuckers.

Advice on picking one? Also, how much better of would I be with a neck- thru than a bolt on for metal soloing? Does it make a huge differance?

I have been drooling over new axes for months, so if you have any other AMAZING suggestions for metal guitars, feel free to toss em' my way wink.gif
Thanks!!!

I suggest if at all possible you try them out befor you make your decision. The DK2M is an awesome guitar (which I have) but the maple fretboard is a little brighter in tone. The neck-thru will offer more sustain and your looking for a soloing guitar. I don't know much about Dean though. Seems I read somewhere that there factories are in Korea, ( I may be wrong here) The DK2m is a MIJ guitar.

Yeah, I've played a DK2M and the thing was a beast, I loved it
Same for me on Dean, though, I don't know much about 'em.
Any Dean masters in the house?

I own a Dean Vendetta 4F, it's a great all around guitar, the Dimarzio Super Distortion pickups are great for every type of rock, and can even get a good blues, country sound. Neck wise, it's got a fat neck, similar to a Les Paul, so that would be a huge difference between the Vendetta and the Dinky, because Jackson's usually have very thin, flat neck. And the Vendetta has small frets, they are like medium, where as Jackson's usually have huge frets, this also makes the neck feel like a LP w/24 frets and a 25.5 scale.

Soundwise, my Vendetta is very dense sounding, it sounds great, but for my type of music it's a little too bright, the maple neck through, mahogany wings, rosewood fretboard design makes it very balanced sounding. The neck through design lends more brightness and good sustain, of course a good bolt on joint gets good sustain as well. Quality is good, Korean made, Korea is making some kickass guitars these days.

So let's see, the neck feels like a LP w/25.5" scale, body like a Strat, sounds like a mixture of the two. Dunno bout the Dinky, but take what I say into account, if what I told you about this guitar appeals to you buy it, if not don't. Hope this helps!

Are Schecter necks closer to Ibanez SG's or Les Pauls in thickness?

It's medium thickness, not to thin, not to thick, they are really nice necks.

The one's I've played were closer to LPs.

Hahaha, Smikey, I'm getting the impression that you're slightly fond of schecters! OK, I promise that I'll try out a few Schecters on my next exploratory mission to Guitar Center cool.gif

Ibanez Prestige guitars are shred standards, flat skinny necks. If you like shredding and that kind of stuff, go for an Ibanez, ESP, or Jackson, maybe even a Fender.
Those are totally not my type of guitars though, I need a more deep, dark, thick sound. Gibson, Dean, and PRS are my crack.

Schecter necks are akin to a 60's profile Les Paul neck. Of course, no neck is going to make you a faster player, if you're fast odds are you can be fast on a thick neck too. schecters are a good value but I'm just not a big fan of their neck profiles.
