How Much Should It Cost To Replace A Neck?

It seems like a good neck should run around $150...how much do you think it would cost to have the neck replaced? I have never worked on a guitar and am nervous about getting everything aligned properly. Is it a difficult job? Is it something I could tackle myself? If not, anyone know what it should cost? Yes, it should just bolt straight in, tho u need to make absolutely sure that the heel of the neck is the right size and shape for the neck pocket in the body, and the scale legth is correct. Tho with a Fender Strat that is gunna be easy...just make sure that you double check this with the supplier if you are not 100% sure and tell them model of your Strat... Warmoth are probably pretty good, but I have heard some bad stories about their quality control in recent years e.g. glue used to glue fretboard to neck back turning pink after a year and things like that...not sure how true this is but there equally many people that swear by their good quality.. www.usacustomguitars.com do very nice necks and they have an excellent reputation. I would be wary about buying any old cheap replacement neck off ome net store without verifying the quality of the product and manufacturer first (net reviews etc..). If you buy a USACG neck it will most likely be better than the original, if you buy something for half the price u could end up with crap unless u do the research... After some alignment it should be in place. I've done this on my strat copy a few times, and it took some time, but in the end it is relatively easy and doable work. Of course it varies from guitar to guitar and I have never had any kind of Fender, but at least with the bolt-on guitars I have had the neck pocket and heel are shaped so that that when you slot it in there is no room for movement at all, all that is left is to bolt it down. If you look at the neck from the back, starting at the heel it should gradually get narrower all the way up until behind the nut. This slight angle should also be reflected in the sides of the neck pocket in the body and means that (if the fit is good) you can only slide the heel into the pocket from above, and once it is there you should not be able to move the neck left or right or in or out. Judging by pics on Warmoth, their heels are pre-drilled, that will also help with alignment issues if the neck is a bit of a sloppy fit (which it should not be). And to try to answer the original question. Finished Warmoth neck can be had for about 250USD + shipping, the same from USACG for about 300USD + shipping. 1 other thing to check is if it comes with a nut installed or not, that seems to be the case with Warmoth and not with USACG. You would also need to check if the nut is just a blank or if it is slotted, and if it has been slotted to the correct depth or just "started" (some people say a nut can't be slotted until it is on the guitar). Anyways, unless u want to do it yourself, best make sure the neck has a nut on it and it is slotted fully for the neck. You are at GuitarMasterClass.net Don't miss today's free lick.
