Well, a couple months ago, me and my friend decided to start our own music project (don't quite have the full line-up to classify as a band yet). I am, needless to say, in charge of the guitar department; he handles the bass and drums. We use Line 6 Toneports for recording the guitars, bass, and vocals (me and him tag-teamed the vocals) and programmed with the Drumkit From Hell in Sonar for the drums. These songs are our first attempts at making music. I am starting to study more into theory so that I can understand music more and be more able to create it. I would like advice on what to change/add/remove on these and future songs.
These are, of course, rough demos that spawned from just sitting around jamming (usually drunk for some reason) and a lot of these parts need re-recorded, but I'm too anxious to hear some advice before I try for perfection on the recordings. We didn't really set out with any particular intent on what we wanted to create, but with us both being big fans of the more extreme sort of metal, I guess it turned out primarily death metalish, but a little bit of our stoner rock side comes out in other songs. A lot of what needs done to these songs to finalize them is just adding some lead. Since I don't understand too much about theory, its hard for me to even know what it is that I've written and what scales/etc would go well with it. I guess I'll be happier once I can show off with some good solos. I mean, I'm able to play more complicated stuff that other ppl have written, I just need to have the ability to write music that is up to my skill level of playing. "Death Awakened" - This, I would say, has to be our most completed song so far. It's simple, but heavy with what ppl tell me is a catchy melody. As far as content, I'm nearly satisfied with this song. The sustain on the guitars is lacking, and it sounded a lot better when I played the riffs on my 6505 because of this. A couple minor mess-ups with the trem picking were bound to happen, but I'm waiting to rerecord those when I actually have gear that I don't have to struggle with to get sustain from. Vocals are horrible, and will be rerecorded when we get better equipment, as well as an actual vocalist hopefully! "The Inevitable Departure of Life" - Simultaneously my favorite and least favorite song. I'm very happy with the somber intro and the rolling outro riff. Need to get some lead on what's in between and definitely re-record the crappy "solo" that I was planning on using Symphonic Orchestra to use some classical melody instead. Also got a new, much better sounding wah. Really need some advice for how to go about adding lead on this song, especially the second distorted riff. "Death of the Messiah" - Our first song. Spoken intro is cut off because of the same reason as the first song. Vocals in dire need of re-recording also. I guess it's not too awful... well, maybe not. "No Fear of Hell" - Newest song and tentatively titled. Another instrumental for the time being. Like other songs, need rerecording and lead. Thanks for taking the time to listen! I've only head the 1st song in the list so far. But i absolutely loved the intro! (maybe a bit too much vibrato on the notes at times, but thats just a personal preference)

Just heard the rest too now. Apart from some minor bugs here and there, there isnt much to critisize.
The sound quality as it is works perfectly as demos, and the songs are LOADED with cool ideas. The solos can sound a bit directionless, maybe like you dont know what you should play, but they work.
