May have come up befor but not since I joined.

The Collab's that I've seen and the one or two I have entered have all been (backing--- Add Solo).
I had an idea that what if one (Instructor or whoever is conducting the collab) post's the solo then participants add the rhythm?

Let's say in this case an instuctor is doing the collab. He could create his own backing then solo over it. Once he/she has as many tracks laid down they want, then they would render it with only the solo,drums,bass,keys,ect... It would then be up to the participants to come up with a chord progression that fits the piece.

Just thinking out of the box guys. I think it would be a good way to here rhythm ideas from different members.

Thoughts?

Could be cool. It would help with riffing, solos aren't the only thing about guitar (just the best XD). Maybe a group or 3 or so people could put a solo or two down in the same tempo and whatnot and maybe assign a member to each leader.

Like, say Muris and Kris each had 2 solos in one, you could assign Smells to Muris and Munta to Kris's solos (first names I thought of/saw).

I guess if you did it that way it wouldn't have as many people as normal collabs though.

Thats a good idea!
I had a similar idea about making a collab with just drums and the participants could make fitting riffs, but i assumed it would be a bit boring and sound a bit incoherent with just a repetative drumpattern and various riffs ontop.

Your idea sounds more interesting.

I think that the final mix would be up to the person who takes on the collab. Limmit the number of entries and go from there. Sure there will be alot of different chords and people playing in different keys, but it just might sound cool! Hell, I don't know, seems like alot of new material thats selling coppies is just a big mess and people love it. blink.gif

laugh.gif Looks that way don't it. O'h well, soloing is great, but I would really like to hear some different styles and tones from GMC'ers in a rhythm/riffing colloab. smile.gif Maybe one day.

I'd love to see this occur sometime. I much prefer riff writing and chords to solos.

Well based on my experience so far, there is always somebody who does somekind of rhythmic take in the collab. I think it is best to leave people to make their own choice what to record, wheter it is solo or rhythm, voice or something third.

But I do agree that a rhythm collab would be a nice idea. I'll have it in mind for sure smile.gif
