somebody posted that on the Idol forum. It contains quotes from the voting guidelines and comments from the guy who posted the text below. Interesting stuff.

1
[u]Quote:
First of all, as clearly stated the Online vote is primarily for the Peoples Choice Award. This will guarantee you a Finalist place and a special prize.

This means one of the 10 will be the person with the most on line votes.

2
Quote:
The other finalist places will be decided by a panel of pro music industry figures from the sponsors and organising companies.

This means 9 will be selected by panel

3
Quote:
As this is a contest to find the best player out there we couldn’t just rely on this being an Internet popularity contest – equally in the modern day world self-marketing is vital, so having this as well is a massive help to the judges to assess if someone is the complete package.

Unfortunately this means that the panel are likely to use on-line votes to enable short listing. Not surprising with so many candidates, but I feel could result in talented players being overlooked in favour of popular players.

4
Quote:
but if someone is great but cant muster more than a couple of dozen votes then it’s not going to help their chances at all…

Unfortunately this means you could be Shawn Lane or Allan Holdsworth but if you don't have any votes you won't be short listed. QED it's assumed that votes indicate talent in the eyes of the panel. A shame really because there are lots of Ford Focus's, they are very popular, but there are very few Rolls Royces, but they are much better cars. I think I know which car I would aspire too...

5
Quote:
In the music industry of today you will have to promote yourself massively in order to get anywhere – no longer can you rely on record companies etc. to do this – so use this as a way of brushing up on your networking abilities and SELL YOURSELF. Get every student/fan/friend/family member to support you NOW. There are 4 weeks left so it is vital not to waste any time.

This clearly states that no matter how good you are, if you can't drum up support, you won't be short listed. Which clearly means that players like Chris Feener , Matt Rach and Cesar Huesca are already short listed and yet other talented players... you know who they are... are unlikely to make it... a crazy state of affairs.... so "idol" is the appropriate term for this competition.

Muris droped out of the top ten. More people have to vote. David is not even on the first page. Over 4000 members on GMC and only a few votes. Vote people, vote

Voted yesterday. Really good entries over there but none shows in depth knowledge of the instrument + versatility + skill like your entry.
I'm quite sure that you'll be the one to win, and it will be deserved :]

Cheers,
Hristian

I made two accounts and voted on you both twice ^^ Not that it made that big difference though... I bet the panel is gonna notice you both ^^

(Is it: "I bet the panel is gonna notice you both", or "I bet the panel are gonna notice you both"?)
