Hi guys i'm actualy have easy beginer question

actualy my practise look like that...improvising by some slow backing track{and playing over minor pentaonic scale}
then i'm do alternate spidpicking
and then i'm learnig songs

actualy i'm find out couple days ago to great improvising also just with power chords so what i'm do is i'm playing just them and like sliding palm muting without thinging where i'm be go to my next move{improvising}
now i'm just thinking made this kind of improvisation more interesing so i'm wanna add something more into the power chords something like small licks..what i'm know now is just whole 5 boxes of penta min and 2 boxes of minor scale..i'm dont know nothing about the chord progresion

so it's be ok{corect way} when i'm play for exmaple E5 power chords then B5 power chords then A5 power chords to add after i'm play each chord couple singl note picking from the scale what i'm know..actualy it's ok to play after i'm play E5 like 3-5 note from E minor or min penta..then go to A5 then G5 and play something also on G min 3-4 note on penta minor scale

hope you got me rolleyes.gif

thanks Rene

Hey there.

If you're playing E5, A5 and B5, then when you are playing those power chords (providing they fit with the song) it's fine to do a little run in their box pentatonics, usually. Your best bet is to play it and see how it sounds. If it doesn't sound right then it's best not to do it.

When I play Sweet Child o' Mine, there's a little power chordy bit that goes A5 B5 C5 D5, and when it hits the D5 I like to play a little run in Dm pentatonic, and that works fine.

ok i'm got you theoretically i'm can do everything with the kind of improvisation what i'm like but thats shoot sound good!!!

so after i'm hit every power chord it's ok to made small lick of same name of scale as chord is..so i'm can combine like 5 power chords and 5 little scale run and also i'm can play chord with diferent type of scale run..there is no rules!!??

the rules is thats shoot sound good rolleyes.gif

hope i'm understand this right

Well, obviously you want to play the scale of the chord you've landed on. So don't play the Dm pentatonic if you're playing an A5 - play the Am pentatonic.

I'm sure that somebody with more musical theory knowledge than myself will be able to give you far more help, but I'm sure you'll pick it up by ear.

Whats up Rene! I think you and I have been playing about the same amount of time and thought I'd give you my view of the question you are asking. IMHO, I would leave chords to the rhythm part of any song and the Runs/Scales to the lead. When putting together a song you want the chords of the song in any given key to be presice as well as the scale your playing that goes with that perticular Key. Chords played in single notes is an Arpeggio, which you may already know and can give a simular feel of a little run. I'm focusing more on actual chord progression in a certain Key and then finding the scale that best suites it.

Anyway ,MHO and just keep jammin man!

Cheers,
Steve

i'm not sure if i'm got everything right {my english rolleyes.gif }
but i'm understand i'm belive well what you mean with the arpegio and chord progresion..thats probaly werry usefuel stuff but i'm still realy big beginer tongue.gif and like i'm say..what i'm do now is just playing 1 power chords over second and then third and sliding betwen them and palm muting them..actualy i'm play maybe 6-7 mont but that kind of improvisation i'm start to do now{like 2 weeks before} and i'm like it

actualy what i'm understand now is..is good to play after i'm hit power chord some little scale run from that kind of scale like power chord is,,i'm also can use arpegios and chord progresion {but i'm not here yet} unsure.gif tongue.gif

i'm not sure now maybe i'm wrong but i'm read somewhere here recomedations use just the scale from the main key???? so usualy when i'm hit the first power chords for example G5 do i'm can?? or have to use just the G scale?? and chord progresion even if most of playing be provide by power chords

so for example i'm be play G5 and some little scale run the E5 B5 C5 and again little scale run on G progresion or scale??

hope you got me i'm dont wana made this complicate laugh.gif maybe i'm all ready did laugh.gif

actualy like i'm say before i'm just improvising with those power chords so i'm loking the right way to made this more interesing..probaly thats what i'm all ready like beginer do is ok{play little scale run with same key as every each power chord is}

becouse what little mistake me is informaction about folowing the key usualy the key which is playing in begining..but on that improvisation what i'm provide i'm hit maybe like 100 power chords in minute and like beginer i'm just trying to find some liitle licks to made the improvis more interesing and usefuel on future

sorry if you not got me that'a can be my bad english or just my not right understaning the problem

Take easi and thanks for previosuly answer cool.gif

You can do whatever you find interesting and good sounding with the powerchords. I recommend using my songwriting lesson in order for you to get some ideas on how to use chords better to make a harmony. Instead of using triads, use only the root and the fifth and you got yourself powerchords.

I read the first few posts, so maybe someone said already, but power chords do not really give the full tonality, so actually you can do more over power chords than you do over the triads.
However, some sequences really sound nice if you do the power chord base and add a full scale solo on top.

Take this sequence for instance: Em , C, D
It is on Em key and you can improvise easily with Em pentatonic

Now if you use the power chords: E5, C5, D5, you can still improvise just using Em pentatonic. But you can also do something else

so if i'm gonna take this way E5, C5, D5 and stay on some E type of scale even if i'm play the little scale run after i'm hit for example D5 it's ok there is just rules to sound good..but if i'm also use you more type of scale here then thats not problem aslo if thats be sound good..actualy i'm not playning to do some big scale run thats still about power chord improvisation with some little sclale run bonus tongue.gif i'm find to fun improvising like that and i'm have to do that becouse i'm have problem with 3 finger power chords

thanks man wink.gif

nice thanks wink.gif so you folowing here the key of E {scale} becouse the first P.chord was played is E5
......so are you playing here sclale and power chords or the power chords are backing track???{i'm can't recognize by ears laugh.gif }

actualy i'm understand this you folow the key so thats why you using here Em scale...and what i'm asking befeore is can i'm also provide after i'm hit each power chord the little run with same key like the power chord is? so for example conect the name of chord with same name of scale i'm thing somebody all ready give me the answer here thats possible if thats sound good

actualy what i'm do like i'm write before i'm trying to play {improvise}fast couple power chords{like 5-10-15 of them} and then i'm will be try to update this with some scale run

actualy 1.corect way is probaly use the key of song in my case first playing power chords for exmaple E5 so ..then i'm can play no mather what chord i'm hit Em scale

or2 way use every single power chord like a key and use the litle scale run playing over the power chord

NICE PLAYING!!!!!!!!!! so actualy what you do is almost i'm can say creating song
what i'm try to do is just fast power chord switching with sliding and muting...i'm wanna made my self ready and confortable for Heavy metal lesson what i'm learn wink.gif

Good ear Rene! Yes the first chord is an E5. And yes, I played the scale over the chords.
You can play in the matter of either examples that you give as long as its a good sounding progression. Again, like some of the others have said, it's what sounds good to YOU!

Let's say you wanted to riff pm'ing the low E and playing Em chords then sliding into a little run and then back to a chord

After the little run in the first and second boxes of the Em pentatonic scale, you would then go back to a chord and so on. If this makes any since. smile.gif

Sorry, coul'nt get the tab to come out so had to attach.

thanks man rolleyes.gif thats not my god ear laugh.gif
i'm just decide this becouse you play Em penta scale so i'm decide you use the key od E usualy thats the 1 playing think

actualy thanks for example i'm understand that..like when i'm improvisin by power chords i'm don't have yet some rules becouse i'm start to do that like i'm write before like 2 weaks ago..usualy i'm just improvisin over slow blues backing track over pent.m scale

whats coming to my mind is do also the power chord verzion..and becouse i'm still not comfortable with this my improvising just was playing like 100 powerchods with nothing else..then i'm start thinking to try play like E5,B5,C5.PM E5 and D5 {thats just example of improvising..}

then i'm start think do to more interesing{2 days ago} and i'm was try to do like E5.B5.C5,C5,C5+litle run on1 first Cm pennta box then B5-D5-pmE5,E5.E5,A5+ litle run on 1 Am penta box and i'm was folow the example
i'm know this is nothing special i'm just was wana know if thats musicaly ok?? actualy i'm know i'm can aslo use diferent type of boxes but i'm just did something easy..becouse i'm able to do that rolleyes.gif

actualy thaks for some recomedations from all of you thats helpful and for best resul will be good learn in future also chord progresion rolleyes.gif
