Real he-men and he-women play Les Pauls, preferably strung with barbed wire. Ibanez is a great guitar for little children. Hahaha, yeah, a Gibson is a mans guitar :-) Well, obviously my choice would be Gibson... or I should better say my choice always is Gibson since all my guitars are Gibsons ;-) But I know both sides, since in the late 80's I also had an Ibanez for about 2 years. In my opinion chosing a guitar is something very personal, no matter whatever we suggest here, YOU are the one that has to feel fine with your guitar, so my only advice can be: Go to a shop and try as many guitars as possible, and then go for the one that YOU like the most. But since you asked for opinions on the guitars, well, I have never used any of those modern Ibanez guitars, so I can't say much about them, mine was a Ibanez Roadstar II, and it was for sure not a bad guitar, it was just not the right one for me. And about Les Pauls... well, what can I say... I have about 8 or 9 Les Pauls in the moment and they all rock like hell, for me this is the ultimate guitar, and for sure VERY suitable for metal rhythm guitars -------------------- Guitars: various Gibson Les Pauls / Gibson J 45

Epiphone is owned by Gibson, they are the "cheap" Gibsons, produced somewhere in Asia, not in the USA. In my opinion, if you don't want to spend a lot of money on a real Gibson, but you want the Gibson feel, get an Epiphone, they are the best "copies" that you can get. My son has one and it is a really good guitar.

Gibson or Ibanez? I guess it depends a lot on which guitars you are comparing. Compare guitars of about the same price. Try to look for the more expensive you can get and also a little bit more than that.
To my preferred style I think Gibson makes the ultimate sound (think of Guns n Roses, Led zeppelin). Ibanez is perhaps second best thing. Gibson's are quite flexible, but Ibanez is even more flexible. I am using my prestige Ibanez to play the same stuff I needed both a Les Paul and strat before. To be fair, I think that people associated Ibanez with Metal too much. I am also using it for rock, bluesy, funky, ballads, whatever. Actually I don't play many metal songs. Next guitar I want to buy? A Gibson Les Paul Custom (the black one of course). This guitar makes the best sound ever, but I think that exactly for that reason it is overpriced. And then I will buy a fat stratocaster (maybe Richie Sambora signature). Also, when talking about Gibson, I prefer Les Pauls. I prefer my epiphone Les Paul custom than cheapest Gibson SG (that I tried in a shop)... -------------------- my "Thank you GMC!" video

Yup, a change of pickups can really improve an Epiphone, but aside from this, if you want to save some money, go for that one instead of the "real" Gibson, you won't regret it.
