I was looking though the Metal Recommendation topic, and got down to "Doom/Sludge/Stoner/Drone" and thought: "What the fudge!?" I've heard of Doom Metal, but never Sludge, Stoner or Drone. So I youtubed some of the bands out of curiosity, and found these guys: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZCTxFW68j8
And I waited for the music... And waited some more.... Then I realized there was nothing more then this... Do people actually get a record label for making this?

One more of the same "band"... I think: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vS53zy-DPF8

Drone is something you dont just immediately like, Like most metal. I quite like Sunn O))) , There music is abstract, and yes, to me at least, beautiful. Its the strange and abstract way that they compose it along with the dark haunting atmospheres that attract me to them. Remember, When you hear some form of music, and dont like it, You dont hear it the same way as someone who does, It depends on the person.

And i do believe i am not the only Sunn O))) fan here smile.gif

haha yea theres a few Sunn fans here, and I am one of them

Drone is music whether you like it or not. It doesn't revolve around anything rhythmic based or anything. Minimalist is a great word for it because hearing drone in the dead night could be the most beautiful or scariest thing you could experience. Drone is just simply music revolves around the atmosphere, and thats really good especially if you just want to chill or get lost in the world or something.

You might like this band man. Boris is my favorite band, and they are what I call experimental music because there music changes drastically every song and even every minute. There music is simply put as drone/doom/psychedelic/garage rock/minimalist/punk rock/noise/feedback. Its also amazing how they sometimes incorporate all of that music into a magnificent opus of music like Feedbacker

Khanate scared the crap out of me. That self-titled release was just very eary. It sounds like Stephen O'malley just murdered someone while making the soundtrack to go along with it.

I like the second part when they start wheeling in Malefic. I mean, I don't like Xasthur, but his vocal combinations next to Sunn is just hellish

idk.. i don't mind this kind of stuff as fill.. or like intros.. but i could not do an entire album of drone.. it reminds me too much of "Info dump" by strapping young lad.. the mood is set.. but after that i need the screams and the heavy..idk.. its not heavy enough..
the best metal =
evil+heavy..

this = evil..

but i want heavy sad.gif

Actually, to me it is very heavy, Just not as obvious as other genres. the guitar tone alone feels like a burden of weight! smile.gif

Anyone can do that,.....most people do do that then drums count off and an actual song begins.

Must not take long to record an album...i can record about 18 right now and sell em to whoever listens to this.

It's great for background music in a film or videogame in my opinion.. I can totally picture myself running around killing stuff in Doom with this kind of music, but I can't sit down and listen to it..
Ah well, as you said: Tastes of music depends extremely on the person listening smile.gif

I'm not a huge fan of this genre, but I like Sunn o)) and Boris quite a bit, but it's by no means music I listen to every day, I need to be in the mood, but I suppose all atmospheric and scary music is like that.for me.
