Hi guys,

The continued saga of my upgrade to an old Les Paul Copy.

As I was taking off the strings I notice one of the machine heads has a missing nut (See photo)

I bet these are darn impossible to replace and I'll need to replace the entire set of machine heads.

If thats the case, do I really need expensive ones? Surely if they hold the srting in tune then thats all I need isn't it?

By the way, anyone know if I can just get the missing not from anywhere? I've tried ebay and all they seem to have are full sets of machine heads.

I'd not replace the nut. machine heads are one of the MOST IMPORTANT part's of the guitar. these are some of the best for a les paul below. They are grovers.

they look expensive at first sight but you will not regret it.

I perfer locking tuners. You can get planet waves auto trim tuners for fairly cheap and they are a great, very stable tuner.

they are for sure important, if you buy bad ones the guitar won't stay in tune, so it is definitely a good idea to get quality ones.

Thanks Guys. I actually struck lucky on Ebay and found a set of these nuts. They are called Ferrules by the way!

I got a set of 6 so I've a few spares.

I may well upgrade the entire machine heads in the futures anyway but at least I've solved this immedaite problem quicky and cheaply!

Cheers
Mike
