Hi

I was jamming to this backing, and I think this is very close to Page´s tone. I tweeked the POD X3 to get a vintage tone, and of course used my Lester for this. smile.gif

you know, I believe he was playing a Telecaster at the time. If you look at some early videos. This is a song from the first album, but I believe he recorded the second, most or all, with the telecaster.

The tone did not sound more than approximately like his to me. His sound was thicker. But don't take that as a criticism. Pretty hard to capture that. For one thing, he used a tape echo I believe. Not easy to capture the sounds made with more primitive technology (built with less precise components) using today's devices.

He did use Telecaster for most of the stuff on the first two albums. It was the amp he was using at the time that produced that lespaul like tone. Also he did use many different guitars on recordings, the lespaul was his main stage guitar.

also, much of it was Page himself. Tone is not just a matter of equipment and settings. Or course, I am sure you agree with that.

Of course the player is the most important thing. But still you never get that Gibson humbucking sound using a Stratocaster with single coils and vice versa. Gear counts too, though the player has the final say in all this. smile.gif
